Ian Mendes Nikita tweet : Filatov likely won't play tonight. Look for Bobby Butler to replace Alfredsson.

Makes you wonder why they called Filatov up.

I'm so confused right now. Why would they call him up if he wasn't playing?

Not sure yet if Konopka is being suspended. Don't want to be shorthanded on the off-hand chance he is.

Lehner on Filatov:
http://www.senatorsextra.com/main/se...-against-leafs
Interesting assessment by Lehner regarding Nikita Filatov: “He doesn’t belong down there (in the AHL)…he could score a little bit whenever he felt like it. He’s a great player with great skill, can score. Just try to find a groove up here and see what happens. I think he can contribute here.”

To clarify, Filatov called up to sit in press box. Butler is in. Speculation that team was unsure whether Konopka would be suspended.

That's probably why.

Filatov played two games in two days if he plays today it would e three games in the three days. Plus he was hitted and hard hitted by Sestito. IMo this is a reason why he do not play now. IMO it could be the line Filatov--Da Costa--Butler if Alfredsson will not back and the line Foligno--Winchester--Condra in another game.

Many of you think he is MacLean doghouse but you forgot MacLean wanted Filatov he was the reason why Nikita is in Ottawa.

I'm a little down on Butler and believe Filatov has a much higher ceiling. What the hell.......bench Konopka and play them both.

This makes no sense, two soft players in the lineup against a very tough Toronto team. Do you like to see our team pushed around, it`s not like the refs will do anything about it. Konopka has one more goal than either of these two & has had more to do with the success of this team than either of these guys. He has the highest percentage of faceoff wins on the team & is the first to protect our skilled players. He adds an element of toughness this team lacks when he is not in the lineup. While Filatov & Butler are obviously more skilled they haven`t yet done anything to help this team win but Konopka has. Is there anyone here who appreciates what Konopka brings to this team besides the coach.

Let me guess. You were a useless plug as a player and hated all the players with actual talent. You managed to convince yourself that you played a crucial role in spite of the fact that the penalties you took hurt your team on a consistent basis...

I actually led my league in scoring three yrs in a row & won the MVP one yr as voted by the players. I wasn`t a plugger but I certainly appreciate what they do for a team & for skilled players. Didn`t Gretzky always have a tough guy on his line.

My point is that the Sens are playing a tough team in Toronto & IMO they will need Konopka`s toughness more than Filatov`s skill. And since he hasn`t done anything yet this yr in the NHL what makes you think he will do anything more aginst a tough Toronto team. Further, I think that Ottawa will need Konopka`s expertise in the faceoff circle as well. Konopka in the lineup gives our players a little more courage than they might not otherwise have. If it gets ugly tonight & there are lots of fights or cheap shots do you want Konopka on your team or Filatov.

It's the wrong call, but whatever.. Butler should be sitting and Filatov playing. I honestly wouldn't care if we lost one of Condra/Butler to waivers if it meant opening up a roster spot for Nikita.

Makes sense. Bring Filatov up, let him sit in the box tonight and get a sense where he's at. Then put him on the roster for the next two games. His attitude has been great since the demotion, so I'm sure he's just glad to be back up in Ottawa.

I agree with what you're saying: dressing both Butler and Filatov for this game is not the way to go.
However I'm at a loss when it comes to Konopka: other than in the circle he hasn't done anything noticeable (even his fights were dreadful).

Serial?

Fair enough... I'm impartial to the decision. Filatov really needs to pull his finger out though.

that shows where he stands with the organization. All this game has shown is that he will never be an NHL player.

He's played 3 games in 3 nights or something. Give him a break.
