If Jagr continues to play like this all season, another team will give him a fat contract.

Once again... Jagr turned down mo money to play for a team that he believes can contend and a team where he feels comfortable.

Without a doubt, someone will offer him a big deal next season (if he keeps this up). Unlike a lot of sports stars, Jags has actually been pretty smart w/ his money and certainly doesn't need to follow the dough to the highest offer, nor will he.

If he wants to play another season, my guess is that it's Philly or some other contending team or bust. And I really feel like money won't be an issue.

seriously guys, stop the money talk, if he wanted money he would be still in russia earning way more than he is now.
I think he does enjoy being in philly, and i hope he ll keep his shape he has now, or even better and he ll stay for at least 1 more year.

Based on what we know now, sure. They should offer at least the same amount.

By the way, does anyone know if a bonus cushion is likely next year?

I asked this a couple of times before too, but never got a clear answer. It worked well so I wouldn't see why they don't bring it back... I never really heard any complaints about it

Assuming he continues his current scoring pace finishing with 82pts - Someone will definitely outbid us.

There is no CBA in place for next year so no, there is no bonus "cushion" for next year right now. You CAN sign a 35+ player to a contract with performance bonuses but when figuring that contract right now all the bonuses would have to count.

As a side note, I believe that under the current CBA (it's been a few years since I've read it so I may be off a little here) that we can't even sign him to an extension until after Jan 1st because he signed just a 1 year deal. I believe this was put into the CBA so that you can't sign a player for one year saying "We are tight to the cap this year and can't afford to pay you much but take 1 mil this year and we'll sign an extension right now paying you 5 mil a year for future years to make up for it, thanks". Basically the player can't have a "guarrentee" that the team will keep it's word and they make it a gamble for the player to have to play half the season and take a risk of injury and decreasing his value in an attempt by both him and his team trying to circumvent the CBA and the cap limitations.

BTW, the Flyers have 15.7 mil in expiring contracts and that is how much they are permitted to spend on contract extensions during the season. We've used up 4.25 mil of that in the JVR extension leaving us with 11.45 mil for the likes of Jagr, Voracek, Coburn and Carle, if we wanted to extend any of them before the off-season officially begins on July 1st.

I understand that there isn't a CBA for next year. This is the second time someone answered it this way. What I think me and the fella above that asked is if there is gonna be a bonus cushion with the new CBA, and i know nobody knows but any opinion helps. Just trying to figure out what people think about it and if they think it will be around with the new CBA.

No, I believe that's in Pittsburgh circa 1998.
