Dave Maloney on XM

Dave Maloney is "befuddled" at the Sean Avery move

Brandon Dubinsky had 10 goals in the first 13 games last season. 0 in the first 9 this season. AA and Derek Stepan are also struggling this season

Maloney discusses MDZ and Dan Girardi

The Rangers are doomed without Marc Staal

I don't know how the Avery move is befuddling, when we had players like Newbury, Zucc and Christensen are playing now. Why not try Avery, he brings some energy.

Dubinsky has been off to a cold start, only 3 points, but has looked good the last few games. Anisimov and Stepan have been horrible, hopefully they turn it around.

Our top 4 defenseman right now (Girardi, McD, Sauer, MDZ) have all looked good but they need the help from Marc Staal. Girardi/Staal are a great combo and Girardi needs some of the load taking off of his back. McDonaugh is good but does not deserve 1st line time, and Sauer is a very solid #3/4. MDZ needs to be able to focus on offense powerplay and have less 5 on 5 time. I think he has been great, and will be better with a little less time.

More and more it sounds like the Avery move came from Dolan. James probably went to the game on Thursday and demanded a shake-up. (Remember, he's done this before--it's the main reason why the organization keeps going out and signing fighters, although this year they went with Rupp, who's not exactly in the same vein).

lol. No one wants or likes Avery other than some Ranger fans.

No one claims him; they don't want him.... The coach hates him. Rosen hates him and apparently Maloney.

Avery isn't even the same player as he was a few years ago. I really don't understand whats the fascination with him from some the fans.

People just like to watch the amount of attention he demands. Although mostly people wish it was the avery of old. He's usually doing something on the ice wether good or bad

Lady Gaga, Perez Hilton, and Kim Khardasian have millions of fans as well. Probably more a reflection of today's society than real hockey fans.

What's being referred to as "befuddling" is the fact that he's being called back up.... To the outside observer, the assumption was that once he was sent down, he would not be recalled, that it was a permanent assignment....

Newbury was recalled, Andre Deveaux is being recalled and this guy is shocked that Sean Avery is being recalled. It's simple, Torts is admitting his mistake. At least he's man enough to do it.

Except he didn't admit it. He flat out said "this is the right hockey move now, just like it was the right move when Sean was sent down."

Wtf..

Dolan doesn't make hockey related decisions.

Sather doesn't make hockey related decisions based on what fans want.

This is a hockey decision. The players that had been on the roster hadn't been getting the job done.

There's no one left in Hartford/Connecticut ready to recall. Hagelin arguably, maybe they feel he isn't ready. The called Deveaux. There's no one else.

Avery fits a role. They need 4 lines that can play.

There's no conspiracy at play here.

Perhaps the most rational reason is the answer?

You don't think so--go back to where Orr was out of the lineup against Philly (pretty sure it was them) and the team got pushed around all night. After that Orr was always in the lineup and as soon as his contract was up, they upgraded to Huggy Bear and then Boogaard. It was in the press (unfortunately I have to go to work and probably won't have time to dig it out for the next day or two, but will try).

Anyway, you really don't thnk Dolan didn't notice the chants during the home opener? And Sather's comments after Avery was demoted indicated that he would consider re-calling Avery. Rupp's knee problem made it easy for everyone to get on the same page.

If Rupp wasn't injured and possibly facing the prospects of knee surgery, I doubt Avery gets recalled...
