FLYERS-SABRES' 2010-11 REGULAR SEASON AND PLAYOFFS SERIES:
  • October 26, 2010 -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves and the struggling Flyers' powerplay netted a goal in each period leading the Flyers to a 6-3 home win. The Flyers' PP, which entered this game 3-for-35, went 3-for-5. Jeff Carter (1-2-3), Claude Giroux (1-1-2) and Danny Briere (1-1-2) led the offense. Nikolay Zherdev, Darroll Powe and Giroux scored second period goals to give Philly a 4-1 lead. The Flyers responded to a poor performance the prior night in Columbus and outhit the Sabres 24-12. Buffalo led 1-0 and 21 seconds later Sean O'Donnell and Cody McCormick fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfb6BV898Vg ) in what Peter Laviolette later called the game's momentum-changer. Prior to the game, the Flyers presented the family of Barry Ashbee with his retired jersey banner that was raised in the Spectrum. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A3e1rLIWlw
  • January 11, 2011 -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 38 saves, including 26-for-26 over the last two periods, and the Flyers scored three times in the last period to rally from an early 2-0 deficit to win 5-2 in Buffalo. Danny Briere (1-3-4), perhaps unexpectedly not chosen earlier in the day for the NHL's All-Star Game, and Scott Hartnell (2-1-3) led the offense. The line of Briere, Hartnell and Ville Leino (4-4-8) had eight points. The Sabres led 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game but the Flyers rally began with Hartnell's PPG in the first period and Briere's second period goal made it 2-2. Leino, Mike Richards and Hartnell added third period goals. Video of disallowed goal ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUGc5gn4wHs ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm56XWWyuOY

  • March 5, 2011 -- Ryan Miller made 33 saves and Jason Pominville (1-1-2) snapped a third period tie in Buffalo's 5-3 win at Philly. Six Sabres had two points apiece. The Flyers led 2-0 after the first period and killed a 5-on-3 that lasted 1:10. The Sabres took a 3-2 lead in the second period before Kimmo Timonen's 100th career goal, a SHG, tied the score. Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves.
  • April 8, 2011 -- Thomas Vanek's (1-2-3) goal 1:16 into OT gave Buffalo a 4-3 home win. Nathan Gerbe (2-0-2) tied the game 3-3 in the middle of the third period and less than a minute after the Sabres killed the Flyers' first PP attempt. Ryan Miller (8 saves, 8 shots) replaced Jhonas Enroth (16 saves, 19 shots) after the second period. Danny Briere (1-1-2) and Scott Hartnell (1-1-2) led the Flyers. The Flyers (0-3-2) lost for the fifth straight time. The Sabres clinched a PO spot with the first point earned.
  • April 14, 2011 -- In Game 1 of the ECQF, Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots and Patrick Kaleta scored early in the third period of Buffalo's 1-0 win in Philly. Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves. James van Riemsdyk was selected the game's top star. The Flyers failed on a 2-man advantage that lasted 38 seconds in the second period. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkiM6qq05EU
  • April 16, 2011 -- In Game 2 of the ECQF, James van Riemsdyk earned top star honors, for the second straight game, and Ville Leino's PPG snapped a 3-3 tie in Philly's 5-4 home win. Brian Boucher (20 saves, 21 shots) replaced Sergei Bobrovsky (4 saves, 7 shots) with the Sabres leading 3-2 in the first period. Buffalo's PP was 2-for-8, with Thomas Vanek (2-0-2) scoring both goals in the first ten minutes of the opening period, while the Flyers went 1-for-10 in a game that had 22 minors and one fight (Scott Hartnell vs. Paul Gaustad two seconds after the Sabres tied the score 1-1). Danny Briere made it 5-3 less than two minutes after Leino's tie-breaker. Ryan Miller made 29 saves. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkmBdN0eawE

  • April 18, 2011 -- In Game 3 of the ECQF, Brian Boucher made 35 saves and Jeff Carter, Danny Briere and Nikolay Zherdev scored off Ryan Miller (22 saves) in the Flyers' 4-2 win at Buffalo. Zherdev's goal, off a perfect feed from Mike Richards, made it 3-1 and he earned top star honors. Kimmo Timonen added an ENG. The Sabres held a 37-26 shots advantage including 16-6 in the first period. Scott Hartnell was called for two simultaneous minors in the first period but the Sabres did not score. Buffalo held a two-man advantage for 1:15 in the third period but couldn't beat Boucher. Sergei Bobrovsky, who started Game 1, was a healthy scratch. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMv1r8ec8bk .

  • April 20, 2011 -- In Game 4 of the ECQF, Jason Pominville scored 9:38 into the game and Ryan Miller, who teammate Chris Butler later said "was absolutely phenomenal," made 32 saves in Buffalo's 1-0 home win. Miller said of recent critics "I'm happy that I helped the team get a win. I'm not going to pay too much attention to anybody who's talking about my game right now. I really don't care." Miller was the game's top star while Brian Boucher, who made 28 saves, was selected the number two star. Mike Richards received a 5-minute elbowing major for elbowing Patrick Kaleta with three seconds left in the second period. Jeff Carter suffered a knee injury and missed the rest of the series. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT6ductZMR8
  • April 22, 2011 -- In Game 5 of the ECQF, Tyler Ennis scored 5:31 into OT to give Buffalo a 4-3 win at Philly. Ennis also gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead and earned the game's top star. The Sabres led 2-0 3:51 into the game and 3-0 after one period but Danny Briere's goal tied the score in the third period. Brian Boucher (8 saves, 11 shots), who surrendered two soft goals in a span of 87 seconds, was replaced by Michael Leighton (20 saves, 21 shots) who started just one regular season game. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6xVa-MWTf0 .
  • April 24, 2011 -- In Game 6 of the ECQF, Ville Leino's goal 4:43 into OT gave the Flyers a come-from-behind 5-4 win in Buffalo. The Sabres led 2-0 8:41 into the game and 3-1 after the first period. Danny Briere (2-0-2), who was chosen the game's #2 star, later said "I've been through some pretty wild and crazy games through my career... my heart definitely skipped a few beats today," tied the game 3-3 in the second period. Nathan Gerbe's go-ahead goal gave the Sabres a 4-3 lead which they held through two periods. Scott Hartnell tied the game 4-4 midway in the third period, four seconds after the Sabres killed a penalty. The Flyers held a 49-33 shots advantage, including ten by JVR, and dominated 18-7 in the third period and OT. Michael Leighton (5 saves, 8 shots) became the third Flyers' starter pulled from a game in this series and Brian Boucher (24 saves, 25 shots) was terrific in relief. Ryan Miller made 45 saves in the loss. Thomas Vanek (2-0-2) and Tyler Myers (0-3-3) led the Sabres. Chris Pronger saw limited PT as he returned to the Flyers' lineup after missing 21 games with a hand injury. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xDKW_Kw974

  • April 26, 2011 -- In Game 7 of the ECQF, Brian Boucher made 26 saves and two PPGs in the second period helped the Flyers to a series-clinching 5-2 win. The Flyers dominated the opening period with a 16-2 shot advantage and Braydon Coburn's goal, off a misdirection by Mike Grier, with 19 seconds left snapped the scoreless tie. Danny Briere (1-1-2), the game's #1 star aided by two key faceoff wins which led to the first two goals, and James van Riemsdyk scored PPGs which gave Philly a 3-0 lead in the middle period. Dan Carcillo made it 5-1 midway in the third but was ejected 1:42 later. Ryan Miller (24 saves, 28 shots) was replaced by Jhonas Enroth (7 saves, 8 shots). Derek Roy returned to Buffalo's lineup for his first game since December 23. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU00R9AuBqE SERIES RECAP: Claude Giroux (1-8-9) and Danny Briere (6-1-7) led the offense and James van Riemsdyk (4-0-4) added four goals. Kimmo Timonen was a series best +9. Brian Boucher, who said "It was a crazy series," had a 2.10 GAA and a save percentage of .934 in six games. The Sabres were led by Marc-Andre Gragnani (1-6-7), Tyler Myers (1-5-6) and Thomas Vanek (5-0-5) but Vanek had a series-worst -7. Ryan Miller had a 2.93 GAA and a save percentage of .917. The Flyers' PP was 5-for-35 (14.3) including 2-for-26 through the first five games. Buffalo's PP was 7-for-31 (22.6). The Flyers became the first team to win a PO series by starting three different goaltenders since Detroit beat Toronto in 1988. This was the first series in Flyers' history in which three goalies started, the first time any NHL did so since Vancouver vs. Calgary in 2004. It marked the ninth time in nine PO meetings that the team which was victorious in the first game went on to win the series. Philly won a PO series after trailing 3-2 for the third time.

FLYERS-SABRES' 2011-12 REGULAR SEASON SERIES:
  • November 2, 2011 -- The Flyers scored three early goals and then held on for a 3-2 win at Buffalo. Ilya Bryzgalov made 29 saves including two keys stops in the game's final 16 seconds off Thomas Vanek. The Flyers led 2-0 by the 1:56 mark on goals by Sean Couturier and James van Riemsdyk. The lead increased to 3-0 on a Scott Hartnell goal at 6:23, the team's quickest 3-0 start since November 15, 2001 against Washington (3:40 into that game). Ryan Miller (8 saves, 11 shots) was replaced by Jhonas Enroth (15 saves, 15 shots) after the third goal. The Sabres went 0-for-5 on PPs. Sabres' forward Patrick Kaleta was suspended four games for head-butting Jakub Voracek.

Why such Leino hate? Jagr is making less than him and is a PPG player. Leino is making 4.5M and has 2 points in 10 games. If anything we ought to shake his hand for being a waste of valuable cap space.

Of course now that I've said that, he will have primary assists on at least 2 goals with his "no-look, spin-o-rama pass through the slot."

This will be a good test for our club. Buffalo is looking like a pretty good team so far.

We will need to capitalize on the PP. I don't see us getting many opportunities against Miller at even strength.

Always gotta hate the guy who walks to get more money. Human nature to want more, but you cheer for the guys who give the home town discount and gripe about the ones that price themselves off the team!

Hopefully guys like Voracek and JvR steps up now that we're missing a few guys. This will be the last game I can see for this week, so I hope it's a good one. I usually hope for high-scoring games, but I think I might be satisfied with low-scoring ones for a while...

Bryz or Bob? I imagine Bobrovsky will get one of the three upcoming games.

To show my love for the Flyers, I am rooting against my fantasy team. This is one of the few cases where I want Miller to get bombarded this season
