Trade Proposal Edmonton/LA

3rd Round Pick for Roenick

Honestly the reason im saying this is because Roenick has no value playing behind centres on LA such as Conroy and Demitra. Easily be a number one line centre in EDMONTON...

Exactly. Roenick said he would only waive his no trade clause to play for two teams when he was being traded from the Flyers..and Edmonton wasn't one of those teams. Kings and Yotes were.

And oh, Demitra is playing RW on Conroys line. So..

And I doubt Edmonton would want to touch that contract.

Everyone makes a valid point. Roenick would not waive the no trade clause to go to Edmonton when he's in a place he wants to be and I don't think the Oilers want 16 million locked up in Roenick, Pronger and Peca alone.

You got that right, edmonton wouldn't want to pay him that much and he wouldn't want to be here, we wouldn't want a guy who doesn't want to be here. For edmonton, if we are in the playoff hunt by the trade deadline then I can see us making a move for a pure sniper from a team that is not in the playoff run. But to take a contract that size for the majority of the year, it's not going to happen.

A trade like this couldn't happen because of Roenick's no trade clause... but if he wanted to play in Edmonton, and LA didn't have a need for him, I don't think his contract would deter Edmonton from acquiring him.

locking up $$ on contracts only matter when you're looking at future seasons, and any other additions the team wants to make in its current season. If Roenick was the only addition Edmonton makes, and assuming they have salary cap space to add him, I doubt that the fact they're locking up $16mill for 3 guys matters, when only one of those are still locked up next season, when contract renewals and new FA signings take effect.

moot point anyways, since Roenick is likely to finish the season in LA, and has a no-trade clause to make sure that happens.
