He didn't drop too far as he was ranked as follows-

RL 16
ISS 21
TSN 19
THN 16
ESPN 21

NHL CS had him at 14th amongst NA skaters, bring NA goalies and all Euros into the fold and that drops him further.

Great player, but surely not NHL ready. Still has to learn to use his frame more. The WHL is the perfect place for that.

Have people here even seen him play when they say he only got points because he's so much bigger and stronger than anyone else? Part of his problem right now is the exact opposite - he doesn't physically dominate enough given his size and it's something he should be working on in junior next season. He is guilty of being a little to handsy and cute with the puck sometimes. He should be learning to impose his will more and play with an increased fire this coming season.

Just because he's big doesn't mean he only got his points because he physically dominated everyone.

The guys an Edmonton product, such a great kid. One of the least cockiest guys I've ever had the pleasure of hanging out with that's going somewhere. Go look at the Oiler board when he was picked one spot away from us, we love Klefbom (was everyones second choice) but the idea that he might drop to us had everyone giggling. Damn you Chi-Town.

I can say that Team Canada was really a bit disappointed in his play at the U-18 tournament. He was supposed to be a first line center and although he had 6 assists in the tournament, his role became smaller and smaller throughout. I also think he was a -3, if I remember correctly.

In any case, Scheifele stood out much more and his line's good play saw McNeill drop quickly on the depth chart.

It's only one tournament and 6 or 7 games, but a lot more was expected of him. The group of guys the Canadians had there were certainly good enough to medal. McNeill just wasn't often to be seen throughout the tourney.

Physically, yes. Everything else, not yet. I can easily see him as a solid 3C if he improves his defensive awareness.

Yeah, that tournament was concerning. I watched him all season with the Raiders and he had his ups and downs but it was very rare when I didn't single him out as the best player in any game for PA.

outside of Landeskog and Larsson I feel McNeil is the most NHL rdy player out of 2011 draft

but he should play another year in junior and battle for a junior team spot.

I was hoping buffalo would draft him. I like Armia but I really hope mcneill doesn't have a better career. Same thing happened with Pat Berglund a few years ago when we picked Persson.

In 18 games he has 14 pts but posting a -11. Is he having a tough start to the season?

People who have seen him play, how has he been so far?

Apparently that Price Albert (does this tickle anyone else's funny bone?) program is very detrimental to developing prospects. They've had some coaching turnover in the past few days and hopefully that will set McNeill on a better development curve.

I don't think they've developed a legitamite NHL prospect in 7 or 8 years. Pretty big prospect graveyard.

Not a fan of their coaching and McNeill hasn't been overly noticeable, despite the fact that he has been playing with the other best offensive players on the Raiders.

With that being said, the Raiders version of offensive players aren't up to par with other teams in the league.

They are a bad team going through major issues all over the place (roster turnover, coaching turnover, bad attendance).

I think we could see McNeill dealt within the calendar year.

I agree. PA does not have a lot of movable parts. They need to blow that thing up and rebuild.

As for McNeill, he is a good player having a down year, stuck in a bad situation. Chicago fans should not be too down on him, but PA fans should be choked at their whole org.

Mark McNeill

Was just interested in hearing If any of you have seen him play regularly and if so, who is he comparable to in your opinions? What does he do well, and what does he struggle with?

Also who can you see him eventually centering on the Hawks?

Quite a few threads on him I think if you look back a ways. I'm a big fan, but he hasn't had much help this season.

Has potential, great size and some upside.

Not unlike Luke Adam in Buffalo

McNeill's game reminds me a ton of Mike Modano. Just a runaway freight train on the rush, great size and speed. Can score from in tight or from the outside. Needs to learn the finer things about playing center such as postioning, when to attack, when to stay back. At worst, he'll be a fine power winger.

Modano didn't become a great center until Ken Hitchcock taught him how to play the position properly.

Saw him again live last night and it was one of his better showings I've seen live this season.

Still expected more from him this year, even if the Raiders are a bad team. He won't even touch his offensive totals from last year, which is pretty sad.
