Interesting, glad to see them get it out of the way. 1 down, 5 more to go. (Bournival, Gallagher, Ellis, Pateryn and Westin all must be signed before June 1st or August 15th in the case of Pateryn, or we lose their rights).
He had a great start to the season (his whole team did, but he played excellent D from all accounts) and Gauthier felt he deserved it now. I'd imagine Tino is kinda bummed he's out of the lineup. Something to cheer him up. Good call.
The best case: a Chara
The good case: a Gill
The bad case :a Valabik.
He's already a better skater than both the good and bad cases. Not saying he'll play 1000 games, but I think there's a pretty good chance he'll be a more useful/versatile defenseman in his prime than Hal Gill was.
Does someone know why they didn't simply wait for him to turn pro? What's the point in signing a player who has yet to graduate from junior?
I think a perfect example of the small stuff in being a GM that we don't much about. If you guys remember we got the 50th pick in the 2010 draft from the league because we never signed former 1st round pick David Fisher, but for you to be able to get a pick from the league for a former 1st rounder not signing you have to atleast have made an offer to him, and I believe the Habs made an offer to David Fisher not long after he got drafted but he rejected it. Maybe PG just sent it out nothing really expecting anything and Tinordi took it now.
There's not really any downside to signing a player now vs waiting till May, so it just gets it out of the way. Since the Habs have to sign several guys, better to get at least one out of the way.
I understand, but I think it's the first time the Montreal Canadiens sign a junior player as soon as November and even before the season is finished... Why do this with Tinordi, anything special to interpret???
