Anybody clearly remember 07-08?

Hi Preds fans, asking a favor on behalf of the History board. There's a thread there (http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=1019317) discussing players who had flukishly terrible +/- ratings compared to anyone else on the team, and Radek Bonk's -31 in the 07-08 season is the center of discussion.

If anyone happens to clearly remember the specific context behind that stat, please share in the thread linked above. It would be great to have some insight.

Thanks!

Well, I remember Radek had an unreal face-off stat.. That probably helped.. He played with defensive minded wingers.. But that is probably all I can remember..

not very fast, but strong on faceoffs and good defensively. He was almost always utilized in defensive zone draws, rarely in scoring situations... that, combined with his speed had a lot to do with it. He definitely wasn't as bad as the -31 would appear.

Trotz almost had a heart attack from happiness when he realized that year he could make a shut down line of Ortmeyer-Bonk-Smithson. It happened to be though that they were awful together. Yet Trotz kept putting them together for a long time until after it was obvious it didn't work. Bonk was a solid player. If your looking for examples of +- not telling the whole story behind a player that is a pretty good example.

I liked Bonk. He scored a little and was great at faceoffs. I definitely wouldn't have guess a -31.

Man, I miss the time when we had faceoff masters like Bonk, Nichol, Orts and even Fiddler was darn good at it.

Don't forget about Yannic Perreault. He was the boss of faceoffs

That year Brad Richards was a -27. Not too much to be read into the plus/minus from my point of view.
