we have? it must have been a conversation you had with yourself or someone else as it sure wasnt me.

it is a fact carle is light years better than gus. how you can even try to argue that is beyond belief.

Briere
An upper-body injury... Like a shoulder thing? Hand?

Gotta give him more credit than that. He was a plus 30 with 39 assists last year, and if I am not mistake had the most points even strength out of any dmen in the league. He is better than a number of teams 3 and 4.

Randy Jones put up 31 points a few years ago... I group Carle evenly with Coburn and Meszaros.

Pronger and Timonen are top tear d-men, while Carle, Meszaros and Coburn are 3-4 guys. Lets just say if Timonen went down also, I would not like to see how our defense performs.

I don't think that Briere, by definition, can have an upper-body injury.

Thought I read somewhere it's a rib issue, which would make sense that a few days off could heal it.

Given today's reports that the Flyers are scouting Anaheim for a depth D, I don't think the organization is convinced that Gus is going to be an NHL #6 this year.... if ever. To me, he's just meh. Too small to defend big men, not fast or skilled enough to be Enstrom or Karlsson, not strong enough defensively to be Timonen.

As you say, he might be OK after Pronger's back, when he can play with Meszaros as partner in the 3rd pairing. I don't like when they pair him with Carle - neither is big enough.

Well their 6 defenders are

Lydman-Visnovsky
Beauchemin-Fowler
Sbisa-Brookbank

So unless they go for Brookbank, who sucks and is barely an NHL defender, everyone else will cost a good amount.

Ignoring of course cap hit and cost, Lydman and Visnovsky would be very welcome additions to this blueline. Obviously Sbisa and Fowler would be too.

I wish Fowler was available.. But yeah, I'd be fine with Lydman, Visnovsky, Fowler. I was always a fan of Beauchemin as well.

Glad you enjoyed it.

At this early point in the season, I don't see a problem at all with giving Gustaffson some ice time. Let the kid sink or swim and see if he has the potential to contribute. He didn't look out of place in his limited time with the Flyers last season.

The upper-body injury that had been ailing Danny Briere appears to be gone. The Flyers announced on Thursday that center Ben Holmstrom, captain of the Adirondack Phantoms, has been loaned back to his AHL club. That means that someone is ready to play after being injured.

Since Holmgren said that Matt Read would need a little more time to recover than Briere, it looks like No. 48 will be in the lineup. Sean Couturier centered his line with James van Riemsdyk and Jakub Voracek on Wednesday night in Buffalo and Read centered it on Saturday against Carolina before he was injured.

JVR is day-to-day with a lower body (possibly knee) injury, per Holmgren.
