Well, the system a team is playing hasn't much to do with communication. All the players should be able to communicate on the ice whatever system they're playing. It's REALLY important.

But the most interesting part is where he says they want him to work on his transition and offensive game. That's pretty telling at least we know what the coaching staff wants him to work on.

The thing I noticed most about Emelin was his odd positioning in the defensive end. Sometimes he looked like he was REALLY out of position. It never really seemed to cause a problem, but he was just nowhere near where his team mates expected him to be.

The whole language thing might be an issue right now. He'll get better as the season progresses and might end up playing with Markov. That would be awesome.

It's gotta be. You can't play a zone defense on the intenational ice, they're too big.
I think that the fact that Kostitsyn is translating for Emelin and helping him learn the system is actually good for Kostitsyn. It forces him to listen more carefully and be that much more implicated in the team because now he has to learn for two. Maybe this is why he looks more focused this year. I think that it still comes down a lot too the fact that he finally found a player in Eller that he plays well with, and that's carried over into this year.
As far as Emelin is concerned, sounds like he has a good attitude and a good head on his shoulders. The most important part is that he thinks he has to prove himself, thta he knew that it wouldn't be a given that he would have a starting spot. Hopefully the next time he plays it won't be because of an injury, but instead because of his play in practice.

Hmmpf... Yeah maybe Emelin speaks decent english but doesn't understand, and Kostitsyn can't speak but understands well? So Kostitsyn tells him what the english speaker says and Emelin talks back. I've seen some non-english speaker pairs work like this.

It's unfortunate that he's not playing, but there's really no use complaining about it right now.
There's no way I see JM playing him over a veteran like Spacek.
When Markov and Campoli comes back, who the hell knows what will happen.
The only guys i ever see him replacing are Gill or Diaz. But Gill will be in the lineup until a veteran can replace him, like Markov or Campoli. So i really wonder how and when Emelin will get back in. I would have thought that Martin would have just made Emelin and Diaz interchangeable, or at least given them both a bit of a trial period. I guess the fact we were stuck so far behind the eight ball at the beginning of the year forced Martin to scratch that idea.
I like his attitude and that he understands he needs to work for his ice time here. He can be a really good player for us so I hope he doesn't bolt to Russia.
