It was interesting. I hope he doesn't bolt in Russia after this season, he could become a very valuable asset.
Obviously, it's in french, sorry english peeps! Too lazy to translate.
Wen I say Markov is key with this guy, well this proves it. Communication is key in the hockey operation and with JM's system, Markov will need to play with him.

Well, the system a team is playing hasn't much to do with communication. All the players should be able to communicate on the ice whatever system they're playing. It's REALLY important.
"les amateurs s'étaient fait de lui une image idyllique"
Couldn't agree more.
Good article. I didn't know he had titanium plates in his face because of a fight with Svitov.
But the most interesting part is where he says they want him to work on his transition and offensive game. That's pretty telling at least we know what the coaching staff wants him to work on.
Just some paraphrasing in English with my below-average background in French
Quote:
I must prove that I am able to play in this league and that this is the league I belong in.

Any player wants to play as much as possible. When I was in Russia, I was on the ice a lot, and it did a lot for my confidence. However, when I came here I knew I wasn't going to be guaranteed to play every game. I knew the competition was going to be tough and that everyone would play as hard as they could to make the team.

It is hard to say whether I will go back to the KHL if things don't go well. For the moment, I am here and will continue trying to get better. Only time will tell.

The small ice doesn't really bother me. I've played on similar ice surfaces in international tournaments, and never found it to be a problem.

The opinion of my coaches in the KHL was that the defensive game had to be mastered before even thinking about the attack. Now I must improve my offensive game here in North America. It is great to see others here that can support me offensively as I adjust to that side of the game. My transitioning must be quicker and more effective.
May have screwed some things up but I think it's generally along the same lines.
The thing I noticed most about Emelin was his odd positioning in the defensive end. Sometimes he looked like he was REALLY out of position. It never really seemed to cause a problem, but he was just nowhere near where his team mates expected him to be.
Yeah Kovalev sounded like a smart guy. Just had a bit of a temper!
The whole language thing might be an issue right now. He'll get better as the season progresses and might end up playing with Markov. That would be awesome.
It's kind of funny when you think about Kostitsyn being a translator. The guy barely talks.
And omg... An interview made by a journalist that isn't spinning anything or trying to make the player look bad?! This must be fake.
Well Kostitsyn is the only Russian speaker with the team until Markov gets back, so there's really no other option is there?
And probably like many Russian players, he understands English a lot better than he speaks it. Plus I've noticed his English has gotten better this year, he's not the most extroverted guy out there but he's looked a lot more comfortable.
The reason people think Emelin is out of position is because he plays man to man. He'll often follow his man up the boards and to the point, it's odd for us because we don't see our D do this often, I'm wondering if it's a habit he picked up in the KHL.

It's gotta be. You can't play a zone defense on the intenational ice, they're too big.
I think that the fact that Kostitsyn is translating for Emelin and helping him learn the system is actually good for Kostitsyn. It forces him to listen more carefully and be that much more implicated in the team because now he has to learn for two. Maybe this is why he looks more focused this year. I think that it still comes down a lot too the fact that he finally found a player in Eller that he plays well with, and that's carried over into this year.
As far as Emelin is concerned, sounds like he has a good attitude and a good head on his shoulders. The most important part is that he thinks he has to prove himself, thta he knew that it wouldn't be a given that he would have a starting spot. Hopefully the next time he plays it won't be because of an injury, but instead because of his play in practice.
Another adjustment he has to make from the KHL is how to use his defense partner. In the KHL, defensemen do not pass to their partner, while here it is extremely common.

Hmmpf... Yeah maybe Emelin speaks decent english but doesn't understand, and Kostitsyn can't speak but understands well? So Kostitsyn tells him what the english speaker says and Emelin talks back. I've seen some non-english speaker pairs work like this.

It's unfortunate that he's not playing, but there's really no use complaining about it right now.
There's no way I see JM playing him over a veteran like Spacek.
When Markov and Campoli comes back, who the hell knows what will happen.
The only guys i ever see him replacing are Gill or Diaz. But Gill will be in the lineup until a veteran can replace him, like Markov or Campoli. So i really wonder how and when Emelin will get back in. I would have thought that Martin would have just made Emelin and Diaz interchangeable, or at least given them both a bit of a trial period. I guess the fact we were stuck so far behind the eight ball at the beginning of the year forced Martin to scratch that idea.
I like his attitude and that he understands he needs to work for his ice time here. He can be a really good player for us so I hope he doesn't bolt to Russia.
