You'd think Philly would at least get a Thankyou note from one of these teams, specifically the Cards seeing how much the Phils helped them get that championship, and perhaps even the Giants too as the Phils helped knock off the Padres last year.

I'm sure I'm not alone here in that I don't care for those "well at least we lost to the champions" remarks. That just reminds me more that it could be the fanbase of the team(s) I root for celebrating instead, especially if the team I root for lost for whatever reason but I felt was better than the team that defeated them.

I guess it's time to revisit the people dismissing the Cards before our series?

In an interview with host Mike Missanelli on 97.5 FM in Philadelphia, ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark said:

“The Phillies like David Wright. They have talked about David Wright. Are they really going to be able to make a deal for David Wright? Are the Mets really going to deal him to the Phillies? I mean, those are big questions. But, I’ve heard David Wright’s name for some time. Whether it happens is another story. But, the Phillies like him. … It would have to be a gigantic deal. And, where are the pieces left in the Phillies system to make that deal? … It’s unlikely, but don’t ignore it, because the Phillies have talked about it.”

The way the Phils played I don't think they would have beaten the Nats in a 5 game series. The Phillies beat themselves.

Fielder and Pujols are going to hit the open market. Predictions where they land? I think the Phillies will sign both of them, convert Jimmy Rollins to a left fielder then trade Kyle Kendrick to the Yankees for Robinson Cano, who will play SS, and Jesus Montero.

Bigger concern: re-signing Madson (or getting a different closer) or re-signing Rollins (or getting a different short stop)?

Rollins.

We have young talent coming into the bullpen, and I can't justify paying $17 million (or whatever Boras is going to want) for someone who pitches like 60 innings.

I would sooner give that money to Madsen instead of an aging leadoff hitter who refuses to take pitches, swings for the fences and has a career OPB of .329.

I appreciate what Rollins did in the past and his MVP season 5 years ago, but it's time to move on.

Move on to what though exactly? The problem is the lack of options. I'd much rather have Rollins for 3 years and 4th year option, and the cheapest closer on the market, than Madson and Freddy Galvis.

3 or 4 more years of Rollins? No thank you.

There are options depending on what Amaro wants to do. I have no problem with Wilson Valdez being the everyday shortstop and hitting in the 8 hole and signing a good LF. I also wouldn't have a problem with signing Reyes.

No way. That's like Rey Ordonez but without the fielding ability. I'd take Rollins and a lesser closer, providing Rollins isn't being ridiculous asking for ten years and a billion dollars. If he prices himself off the team, that's one thing, but I think he should be the priority over Madson. The pitching on this team was not an issue, it was the offense. You don't get better on offense by replacing a decent hitter with an awful hitter.

Bullpen is looking pretty sparse next year though... They had like 2 dependable guys towards the end of the season and playoffs and Madson was one of them.

Maybe if you're bullpen is better, charlie doesn't burnout his starters so much. Go balls out and sign 2 closers and a decent lefty.

Rollins is not a bad player, and there really aren't any reasonably foreseeable options at that position that are better than him. Regardless of how frustrating he is at the plate, most short stops are worse.

If they think Galvis is going to be good maybe they go cheap on SS, but I don't know that he is going to be a major league SS.

We have to get younger and cheaper somewhere though, and the easiest place for us to do that is the bullpen. Our most major league ready prospects are bullpen guys.

I disagree, I think Valdez is a good fielder.

I agree with you that the offense was the problem last year and if they are going to make a change to the offense, then Rollins needs to go unless he is willing to move down to the 7 hole, which I do not think he will do (nor do I think he will be reasonable with what he is looking to get in what is possibly his last contract).

Protest, as I posted, I'll take Reyes in a heartbeat. He's 28, a legitimate leadoff hitter and good fielder.

The Phillies are bringing back slugger Jim Thome.

Thome has agreed to a one-year deal worth 1.25 million contingent on a physical on Saturday, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

Never been so excited for signing a bench player. He probably really wanted to be here at the trade deadline last year. Welcome home Jim.

Phil's are seriously pursuing Michael Cuddyer according to Jim Salsbury.
