Yes sir. If the preds have the $$ then unless 20 and 6 want out they will be preds. Hamhuis probably wouldnt have signed in Nsh for what he got in Van. He wanted to go home.

Also...I'm typing at work on an iPhone, so sometimes I forgo a complete thought for brevity. I thought it was clear...but I wrote it . Hard to see the other perspective sometimes.

And it's not a new trend for Carle either. I bet he leads in this category every year. I'm very scared for life without KT.

I'm not a Carle fan by any means, but there are really only going to be 4 guys in the running for giveaways on every team, and it's your top 4 d-men. Who were our top 4 in giveaways, and what were the final numbers?

Top 5 were:

Matt Carle: 59
Sean O'Donnell: 54
Braydon Coburn: 51
Mike Richards: 46
Claude Giroux: 44

Timonen did the best out of the 4 (not including Pronger since he only played 50 games) and had 39, 20 less than Carle.

In Takeaways, Timonen did the best out of the defenders with 43. Next came Meszaros and then Carle.

Carle led d in point last year too, so you can't look at turnovers in a vacuum. Dumb play last night, no doubt, but he had a nice assist too.

Eh, and? The points thing is stupid...honestly. Randy Jones had a over 30 point season also....

Timonen and Meszaros were right near him in points, but did better (in Timonen's case severely better) in all the other categories.

I'm not sure if anybody in the NHL or any teams track turnovers. That would be a good way to evaluate a defenseman.

I would like to see a stat for a "bad turnover while not under pressure that directly results in a goal". It could be called the "Carle"

There should also be a "failed clear that keeps the puck in for a long time and then results in a goal" named the "Coburn"

Carle is one of those players i call bitter sweet !At times i really like his offensive mentality, but at times that mentality really leads him into disaster. One thing is for certain with this club, they ALL try to get to damn cute with the puck out front of their own net, instead of just clearing it and forgetting about an offensive rush....That nonsense really drives me crazy at times !

At least we got rid of that dead-weight in Richards and O'Donnell...

One thing about assists I really hate is that they are awarded kinda cheaply. If a guy makes a big pass and the receiving player does something extraordinary after receiving the puck should the passer really get the assist?

I kinda want primary assist and secondary assist type of a thing...so I really know who made the play.

Anyway, I'm not a big Matt Carle fan. I'd rather have a good defender.

Matt Carle is labled as an offensive defenseman. Matt Carle scored 1 goal last season on a team that led the league in goals.

The best thing you can say about a non top pairing D man is that you didn't really notice him. Don't really notice gus, which is a good thing.

Carle on the other hand

He's one of those sneaky bad Dmen. You can always tell the bad ones who treat a puck like a hot potato. The good ones, the game just slows down when it gets on his stick, he's the guy calmly standing there as bullets fly by his head. Then you have carle, he doesn't seem nervous with the puck, calmly takes his time and then makes the totally wrong play. These guys are hard to play behind because they lull you into a false sense of security. The goalie kinda sees it in slow mo and is yelling BOARDS, BOARDS, and then NOOOOOO as you see it head right the the opposing player. its so frustrating

It's pretty funny that the damning evidence of Carle's crap play is his turnovers, and not his general terrible play defensively.

Other teams dump the puck to his side on dump and chases. There's no secret around the league that Carle is a pass-only player; no defensive bodying of players in his own zone, a complete misunderstanding of what to do on odd-man rushes (Carle constantly drifts over to the puck carrier on 2-on-1s, leaving the other player wide open at the far post), and constant misplays positionally in his own zone.

He's a pass-only player. His best plays come as a result of passing to players that can actually do something with the puck. His futility on the PP comes from the defending team knowing that Carle has no other intentions than to pass the puck to the hashmarks.

Neither he nor Coburn are progressing, and they've been given plenty of opportunity to do so. They've played with two of the best defensemen in hockey for 3 seasons now. They both have very bright offensive upsides, a good amount of size, and excellent speed. But they just haven't put it all together. It's very disappointing. I think Coburn, Carle, and Mez have the potential and ability to be the future 1-2-3 of the Flyers defense...but it hasn't been looking that way. They'll always be a 2-3-4 or 3-4-5 at best at this rate.

Matt Carle and a pick to Colorado for Erik Johnson? Might be a good move, both those guys might need a chnage of scenery.

JVR had a horrible pass to him.

If Carle didn't take that penalty it would've been a shorthanded 2 on 1.
