not gonna happen, nor should it from the players perspective. say he keeps it up and the caps want him, he'd be giving them a pretty huge discount just by signing for the same money, nevermind less. if he keeps it up, dudes banking.
overall, impossible to say at this point. wayyyy too many questions. semin, green, whether wides keeps it up, how orlov plays in hershey, etc etc etc.
That depends a great deal on how much he is asking and the term. Sometimes a player finds that perfect mix and will take less to stay. No idea whether Wideman falls into that category. The way he's playing I wouldn't blame him for trying to hit a big contract.
We can't pay everyone. Wideman, Semin and Knuble are all possibly out for the high profile youngsters.
who do you think they would consider replacing those guys with? because thats a lot of salary ($13m or so), and the only way i think they dont spend every penny available is if they win the cup. and even then, they still might.

Not retaining Semin makes keeping Wideman easy. Orlov making the jump means you do have to clear a roster spot but there are others that can be moved coughschultzcough instead.
I wouldn't keep Wideman at the expense of Semin (or another goalscorer). Goal scoring is an area where we're actually getting a bit thin. If Semin and Knuble go, there would only be two 30-goal scorers in the forward ranks, and there aren't many of those available on the free agent market.
If you're going to let Semin walk, for me it's got to be for a power forward type that can score or a long-term partner for Green (*cough* Suter *cough*), not a puck-mover.

It's a while until that decision is made. I'm just saying that Kuz, Orlov and Eakin will seriously push for regular roles next year so some of the older/expensive guys may not be here. Right now I think the major money will be spent keeping our guys here but I could see another nice FA forward brought in. Again, though, those decisions are a long way off.
Based on now, unless they can unload Hammer's contract, Wideman could be the Dman out. I like him a lot but Green and Carlson need to be paid. With the forwards I don't know that Semin will keep gettin $7M/year and Knubes is pushing 40. I like those guys but something will have to give.
Resign Green and Carlson for the same combined cap hit as Wideman and Green this year....let Orlov take Wideman's place....
I wouldn't let Semin walk...we need his goal scoring....even if Kuznetsov comes over, he will not likely fill Semin's shoes right away....I'd resign Semin for the same hit for two more years...
I would say Knuble is in the energy saving mode and could be much more valueable in the Spring. Less miles this regular season and maybe he will stay for one more year (less $ probably).
With Kuznetsov looking good in KHL and still not bulked up enough for NHL it's possible to see another short contract for Semin.
So I think Wideman will be cut in the summer.
It's bad that we have Poti and Hamrlik and Schultz all in one time.
