MZA may be back (The MZA Thread)

http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/rangerrants/

I still see no place for Zuk on top 6, unless he will play LW on WW spot.

Sean is in the lineup tomorrow. They may make another callup though with Wolski being out. I imagine they figure Deveaux won't be playing this solid for long.

Isn't Avery taking Wolski's spot? Avery was the only scratch.

Unless they decide to scratch Deveaux...

Deveaux will probably be scratched against Montreals speed

There is room for EC, Avery, Devereax, etc but not for somebody (Zooks) that actually has potential for a Rangers/NHL future ahead of him? At some point some logic has to come in to play.

You could put Zooks on the line WW played on and just sit EC or Deveaux

Dubinsky-Richards-Callahan
Zooks-Stepan-Gaborik
Prust-Boyle-Fedotenko
EC-Anisimov-Avery

Or you could go

Step-Richards-Gabs
Duby-AA-Cally
Zooks-Boyle-Prust
Feds-EC-Avery

My fear is Torts will end up with

Avery-EC-Zooks as his 4th line and it may not see the ice much

Yeah he is. With Wolski out though they may want more offense in the form of MZA.

To be honest it doesn't make much sense, I would just bring up Mitchell since I don't think MZA's gonna get top 6 minutes.

Considering how well he has played, I would think the Rangers would seriously think about adding MZA to replace Wolski if he is out for another week or two. Keep Deveaux as the extra forward.

Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Derek Stepan. Wolski when healthy.

All better than Zuccarello. Unless they want to go with this:

Dubinsky-Richards-Callahan
Zuccarello-Stepan-Gaborik

Zuccarello won't get top-6 ice time.

If you dropped line 4 to

Prust-Boyle-Feds

You could arrange a top 9 out of (Gaborik,Richards,EC,Dubi,AA,Cally,Avery,MZA,Stepa n) In no order.

Zucc replaces WW
Avery replaces Deveaux or EC.

This move should be made ASAP.

Will be eagerly looking forward to Zuccs return and him getting some real ice time. Even if Zucc is on the 3rd line he will still get around 12-13 minutes of ice time. A lot more then then 6 minutes he was seeing the first few games.

I think Anisimov gets his shot to play with Stepan and Gaborik in place of Wolski now. That would seem most logical to me. He's already on the NHL roster, might as well throw him in the top 6 before bringing Zucc up for no reason.

That should have been done the second Rupp was injured. Prust and Boyle shouldnt be getting more then 10 minutes of ice time.

For tomorrow night, it's either that or just sliding Avery into Wolski's spot on the Gaborik line. Avery played his best games last year with Gaborik (that Islander game sticks out to me right now.) Not sure if Torts would want Avery getting that much ice time in his first game back though.

My guess is that for tomorrow Feds will be promoted to WW spot and Avery will play in his. Avery -Boyle - Prust is a proven line from last year.

Deveaux ain't going anywhere untill Rupp is back, unless Avery will recall how to drop the gloves, because I don't see Prust it that role anymore.

MZA will be replacement for anyone who gets in Torts dog house or gets hurt or for Deveaux should Avery assume his enforcer role. Ideally, Torts would like Avery to lose a few fights or FU otherwise and replace him with MZA to quitet fans. If Avery is efficient Torts will be first to admit that, though.

Rather see Anisimov get a shot before Zuccarello gets called up to play on the 4th line again. If Zucc needs to be called up for a top 6 role, then you do it. Right now, there aren't enough injuries + people not performing well to do so. Anisimov also fits better on that line (Stepan + Gabby) than Zucc does because of his two way type game

I think he'll get his shot soon, but not right now.

Very few teams have only grinders in their bottom-6.

Buffalo has Gerbe, Ennis.

Montreal has Desharnais, Eller, AK.

Boston has Peverley, Kelly.

Detroit has Cleary, Helm, Abdelkader.

Vancouver has Hodgson.

The 3rd line should be specifically for developing young players. it should be a mix of skill and grit. This isn't pre-lockout where you need 6 players who can only muck it up and hit.

The Rangers are lucky enough to have the Boyle line who can play anywhere from 6-15 minutes a night. Develop MZA at the NHL level. Give him 6 minutes some nights and 14 on some other nights but keep him in the NHL. If he doesn't develop like they want him to then don't re-sign him.

With the way Torts moves players around anyways it doesn't matter who starts on the 4th line or the 1st line, everyone plays with everyone.

I like Zuc but he doesn't make sense on a line with Gaborik. Need someone strong down in the corners, not a second sniper.

I think we might see a line of three big Torts favorites tomorrow. MZA with Avery and Christensen.

Dubinsky - Richards- Callahan
Anisimov - Stepan - Gaborik
Fedotenko - Boyle - Prust
Avery - Christensen - Zuccarello

Not only do I think those will be the lines (if mza does get the callup), I think they would be pretty good. Maybe swap Feds and Aves, but I think keeping the Boyle line intact is wise for now.

Why does Zooks have to play top 6 minutes? He played 3rd line minutes last season and scored .55 points per game with those minutes. That was 5th best on the team. He was 3rd best on the team in points per minute. He only trailed Gabs/Cally. It is not against the law for a team to have skilled players on the 3rd line. There is no law that states a team must have 2 full lines of grinders and can only score 2 goals a game. Feds and Prust are solid 4th line players who will score 15-30 points in a season. They should play on the 4th line not the 3rd line in my opinion.

I don't disagree with this. I just feel an offensive punch is needed in the lineup. Sure Torts could run a bottom six like this:

Feds - Boyle - Prust
Avery - Christensen - Deveaux

But that fourth line will be pretty useless most games. Ideally Feds-Boyle-Prust is the fourth line.

Avery - Anisimov/Stepan - MZA .... should be the third line.
