I should have bet on this. No way was it going to be Kassian or Foligno.
From what I've read out of Rochester, neither has been that impressive so far to earn a promotion plus....

That's what I'd do - Boyes showed some life when teamed with hustle-guys like Ellis and McCormick but neither is going to help set up plays. Gerbe's speed and Gaustad's forechecking down low and in front of the net could team well with Boyes.

Good choice. Tropp's the most NHL ready, and this kid will be a good third-line RWer in this league for a long time to come. He has decent hands, can be pugnacious when necessary, and gives effort at all times. There's something really likable about him.

I haven't seen him in any games other than preseason and the prospects tournament, but I was pretty impressed with his game. Hopefully he fits in quickly somewhere.

Congrats to Tropp for a well earned call up.

I'm thinking he goes to the 4th line and Boyes jumps up with Gerbe/Goose.

Not a surprise here. Kid has an abrasive game and will stand up for himself. Well-deserved.

I would really like to see a Gerbe Gaustad Tropp line.

Even though they won't announce it (like everything else, including minor signings), someone (Ennis or Hecht) has to be placed on LTIR soon.
According to my calculations, we have banked $12,915.08 so far, spending $347,137.06 of the allowed $347,567.57 per day, which means we bank $430.50/day.

Starting today, we will be spending $350,920.85/day, meaning we will bank -$3,353.28/day.
That means that we can carry Tropp for three days (3.85, to be exact, but days aren't counted in fractions) before we run out of cap space completely.
Three days is not three games, it is three calendar days.

I've got a feeling Tropp makes it difficult for them to send him back down. He's the kind of player that this team needs more of.

Sweet. Absolutely no pressure. All he needs to do is grind. Looking forward to seeing what he can do albeit with only about 10 mins a game most likely.

When Grags has been used as a forward it's been as a LW, IIRC.

I'd take Tropp over Kaleta anyday.

Well, I wouldn't go that far but I'm certainly confident that he won't be out of place with the Sabres. I still can't get over how well he's gotten his career together since the suspension.

Kinda surprised that BZK wasn't brought up to replace Kaleta. Zack's physical play would somewhat offset what Patty brought to the table.

But it's always exciting to see one of the kids get a shot. Hope Tropp makes the most of it.

Tropp has a style of play more similar to Kaleta than Kassian does.

I wouldn't have called up Tropp. I'd have preferred to dress 7D and go with 3 lines. Ruff needs to get 3 lines going before he should worry about a 4th line. The top 9 forwards need more ice time to develop some chemistry. There's no flow to their game. They're not working together well as units. At this stage of the season, being able to roll 4 lines is a luxury, not a necessity.

Cool excited to see what the kid can bring to the table....As far as whoever posted the Ellis comment...Ellis is a great role player, always hustles, etc....But he really has no skills....Tropp is not a troll and obviously one of our highest rated prospects....Let's hope he kicks bootie and takes names later

There's not a ton of chemistry on the blue line either, and I'd infinitely rather have a kid who could make some plays and adds a physical game to the lineup than a 7th defenseman that's almost guaranteed to be ineffective and at worst disruptive.

I have been impressed with them but they are both rookies finding their games, their time will come but Tropp is more polished right now.

If Tropp is in their plans at all this year, now is a good time to get him a taste of the NHL. There will be a time this year when we're down 2 defensemen and a forward and we'll need the call up.

CapGeek now has Hecht on LTIR as of two days ago, so we're cap compliant.

I wonder why it took this long to put Jochen on LTIR...

There's no reason for them to do so until they absolutely need to, as it doesn't help them unless they need to exceed the cap.
He was kind of day-to-day for awhile there, so they probably didn't want to be forced into having him miss 10 games or three and a half weeks when he could have been potentially ready.

Because it's not necessary. It only matters if you're up against the cap and need the space. And when you do decide to do it, it's retroactive to when the injury happened.

According to CapGeek, Hecht has been on LTIR for 2 days. Might be interesting to follow that up.
