Also makes you wonder if the reason for bringing Avery back up was partially because of this as well, to get closer to the cap ceiling with his salary.
its possible, but from a cap hit standpoint they could have recalled mza and/or erixon and had the same effect without the risk of re-entry waivers.

At this point, if we got him back whole and healthy for the playoffs I'd be really happy. Not gonna hold my breath though. Just give it as much time as it needs.
AGrossRecord Torts on Marc Staal (post-concussion symptoms). "Indefinite." No improvements. Not at point where improvements can be discussed with trainer

Call them and do what? Offer them half our team for a player they don't want to trade and we can't afford?
That's a LITTLE exaggerated eh? They just locked up Rhinne, next will be Weber, no way Suter signs a discount to stay (never know)..Just see him being the odd man out.. I could see them doing a deal for Dubi, Prospect, Pick...They could hold off to the deadline and milk someone, but I'd try to get'r done sooner. If they want to much walk, no biggie..
The recall of Sean Avery, a healthy scratch last night, has however created a scenario under which another maneuver would bring the Blueshirts into proximity of the $64.3M ceiling.
The Blueshirts have approximately $1.876M of space as of today. Recalling Zuccarello, who carries a $1.75M charge, would bring the club within approximately $125,000 of the cap.
At that point, Staal could be put on LTI, which would thus allow the Rangers to exceed the cap by about $3.85M. The Rangers would have to shed the excess and get back down to the $64.3M in order to accommodate Staal’s return if the defenseman is deemed healthy enough to play this season.
In order to accommodate both the Stralman signing and a Zuccarello promotion, the Rangers would have to either place Mike Rupp on Injured Reserve or return winger Andre Deveaux to the Whale in order to comply with the 23-man roster limit.

Ummm... you should actually research these things first. Suter is the next guy on the list because a.) he's an UFA and b.) Weber wants to see some sign that the organization is serious about improving itself. The Predators won't start negotiating with Weber until Suter is locked up and they've already begun negotiations with Suter's agent.
I've always wondered why the Rangers haven't used LTIR in the past. It's not a good sign that they're using it now though not surprisingly our assistant GM came from a club that has used it.

$@#! you, Eric.
With as good as Skinner has been and their young defense. Expensive Eric Staal might be working his way out of Cash-Strapped-Carolina. When that day comes, the Rangers should be ready.

Yeah, easy to fix
Staal for Stepan & Gaborik
Then do...
Kotitsyn for Wolski +
Hemsky for pics, prospects
Have not seen the Canes play this year or read anything about Staal's play but could he also be suffering from the aftermath of his brother's injury? Not physically, but emotionally and psychologically? The Staals always seemed like such a close knit family with the brothers rooting for each other (at least when they weren't playing each other) and you really have to wonder how it has impacted Eric.

Are cortisone shots in the neck, a standard procedure for concussions?
Something doesn't add up.
And I have a bad feeling that he wont play again...period.
Period as in ever again? At this point it wouldn't shock me to see him out for the year but if you meant career, that's a little farfetched at this point.
Kolarik is out for the year. No one is going to trade for him, not even for future considerations. And if he's placed on LTIR, I don't think he can be traded until he comes off LTIR.
no one would want him even if ge wasnt out for the year. i would rather have him anyways considering he was teammates with hagelin at michigan
on a side note yesterdays Newsday said there were Nashville Predators scouts at the Rangers/Ducks game the other night
