I apply sexwax before every game. The puck sticks to my stick better.

Nothing beats sexwax. By far the best wax for your stick. Unfortunately its not sold in most hockey stores/proshops.

But yes, stick wax for sure. Cuts down on the amount of snow build up and helps keep the blade clean...
I'm not picky. My tape gets sliced and beat up pretty good. Also like the look of lots of puck marks on white tape.

I don't score alot of goals either, but I doubt that's the tape's fault haha.

It's very cheap on ebay.

i have pretty slick hands but my handles with sex wax are unreal. I tape my stick and wax before every game. Since switching from ice wax to sex wax i couldn't believe the difference. The best part is that i can scoop the puck lacrosse style just by laying my blade on the puck pretty well.

An alternative if you don't need the wax to be sticky is paraffin wax. They sell it at most hardware stores. $5 or so for four blocks that will last you 10 years. I'm 3 years in and haven't even gone through half a block yet. You do want to melt it in to the tape though because it's a bit slick.

I've gone for a long stretch using wax and now not use one. No difference whatsoever.

Yeah man. I need to have a perfect, over the toe tape job before every skate or else it will bother the hell out of me.

Just tried hitting the blade with a heat gun to melt in a fresh coat of wax. Dunno if it'll make any difference, but looks good.

It does. I used wax on and off first, because I didn't melt it in the tape, so I saw no difference. Once you melt it in your snow buildup is reduced like 100%. Yesteday I didn't have any buildup (90 mins pickup) with fresh tape and wax.

Always, adds protective layer to your tape. I retape and wax my stick every other time I play but I wax it again even when I don't retape.

Blade Butter is where it's at: http://www.icewarehouse.com/descpage.html?pcode=7101

So easy to keep clean and use. Smells bawse and is good quality stuff. Basically a stick wax deodorant stick. Lasts a long time, I haven't purchased a new one in easily over a year if not more. You can get them at some Dick's too.

I started waxing my stick after I noticed the snow melting into the tape, getting it wet and causing the blade to be heavier on a lightweight stick. With wax, no more wet blade. This way my stick is more consistent throughout a game/ practice. I use a heat gun to melt the wax into the tape. My tapings last a lot longer this way too.. 1-3 months.

I don't know why people complain about the price of the wax...

I use sex wax and it keeps the water from sticking/freezing onto the blade (easy to wipe off), along with added grip which I find to saucer the puck better... it also lets me get about another game or two (3 games total) before having to retape...

this is nice concidering that I carry 2 sticks, and can go almost 5-6 games without having to retape

Really? I was able to get Mr Zogg's sexwax at Sportcheck here in Vancouver, in the hockey section for $3.

Anyways, I used a plain old dollar store candle before buying that, and no wax at all before that. I'm not really good enough to notice a difference, but it certainly makes my stick tape last way longer. Can't say I really notice a difference between Zogg's and a plain old candle though.

Seriously, check out paraffin wax. You can get the box of Gulfwax for $5 or so and it will last you 10 years:

For me if I apply it and then rub it in or melt it I can use the tape for 2-3 ice times instead of 1.

Melting is way too much effort to do every game, just rub it on

First game last night with melted wax, HUGE difference. Never had any more than a tiny patch of snow on my blade the whole game.

Compared to having to clear off big chunks off everytime I get to the bench.

New tape job + wax before every game provided the best results for me, but maybe that was just in my head. If I had a bad period sometimes I would re-tape and wax my stick during intermission.

Wax does make a difference though especially when you go from never using wax to using wax or always using wax to not using it.

Not a big fan. There is a guy on my team who uses so much the black tape becomes white. I use to use it but I notice absolutely no difference.

I tape every game and it makes taking tape off a pain in the ass especially if it's warm in the room your working in.
