Do the Flyers intentionally try to be as vague as possible with disclosing injuries?
Yes, and much of it originates from a policy enacted in 2008 from the GM Meetings. It was a topic of conversation at that time which was designed as intentionally clandestine. Here is a column from that period:
At their June meeting, the National Hockey League's 30 Club General Managers voted to modify the policy pertaining to the disclosure of player injury information. The new policy, which takes effect immediately:
Clubs no longer are required to disclose the specific nature of player injuries. Clubs are, however, required to disclose that a player is expected to miss a game due to injury, or will not return to a game following an injury. Clubs are prohibited from providing untruthful information about the nature of a player injury or otherwise misrepresenting a player’s condition.
