The Rinaldo Thread Part 1: Hits like a freight train

Love him so far this season. He's seeming like the perfect 4th liner. Quick, solid on the forecheck, seems to have decent finishing skills for an enforcer.

Lol what a difference after a few games eh?

He's a no talent bum playing on the fourth line isn't he?

+1 on this. What's the general consensus on his upside though?

He is, and will only ever be a fourth line player who can dot the occasional goal every now and then.

He has very underrated hands, he's extremely fast and agile. He hits like a player three times his size.

While in juniors and the AHL he had a reckless abandon and took terrible penalties. He appears to have gotten his game on track in the NHL

Well his NHL career will have its first bump in the road with a suspension. But hey it took 10 games in so thats a positive

His second stint has looks good except for the headshot.

I have no problem with the kid so long as he doesn't cost us wins. It's good to have at least one crazy, tough guy on the team--and Rinaldo has some skills too.

The CBJ feed showed an overhead view where it is clear that Johansen gets spun around by a prior hit just before Rinaldo crosses his path. It looks exactly like the kind of mitigating circumstance that the provisos in the headshot rule provide an exemption for. On the same order as the Steckel-Crosby hit. I have been waiting for Rinaldo to get nailed for doing something dumb, but I don't think there was anything he could have done to avoid this one.

He needs to relax on trying to make the killshot.

He went out of his way a couple times to make a devastating hit.

Can't keep taking himself out of defensive positioning for that if it isn't there.

likely gone for a game or two, but this guy is exactly what our 4th line needs. He is a faster, younger, meaner carcillo, as long as he keeps playing this way without crossing the line he is a great "weapon" in the flyers lineup.

2 years ago at the prospects camp several of us were beating the "he's the best hitter inthe system" drum. My concern with him has always been the fact he is a suspension waiting to happen. i will say though that i have really liked his play so far this year and this team seems to play better with him in the lineup. ive been more impressed with his offense then anything else, the hitting and energy we were all expecting.

It's amazing isn't it? So many guys on this board had their mind completely made up. I hope they've at least opened their eyes now.

As I've said, this kid is very smart and will do what it takes to be successful. Look all he's overcome with respect to rising through the ranks as quick as you can coming from where he came from. He hits like a truck, fast, nice hands...get some weight on him and he'll be a killer by the time he's 25. Tocceht lite.

I've got no axe to grind with him, but no, never.

Rinaldo has been a pleasant surprise so far!

Personally, I was expecting Carcillo v2 with the brains of Steve Downie (the dumb**** crazy one) - but Rinaldo seems to be born to play on the edge and has not done anything really stupid so far.

The issue was always what he actually brings to the table - which is still very little.

Given where and how he's been used, he has not been put in a position to fail, and thus has done well in what he's been asked to do.

no one on this board expects any thing more out of him than to just be a 4th line grinder. And that's exactly what he's done. He brings more to this team in that position than no-hands Nodl (who he's also out-scored this season).

It's not like people are claiming he's going to be this great power forward with potential to score 40 goals a season.

You constantly claim that he brings very little to this team and that's a complete joke. He hits, he skates hard, he causes turnovers, and he provides a spark. If you can't see tha, then I have no idea what you've been watching.

I dig Rinaldo. I don't think he's anything special, he's just a sandpaper type guy, but I like those guys. Reminds of Carcillo, whom I really liked.
