Need more from the bottom 6 and a lot more from Doughty, Johnson, and Martinez.

I'd say 3 goals from Johnson at this point in the season is as good as you'd expect (that's a 20 goal pace) but completely agree with the rest of your statement. The 3rd line needs to step it up and 3 of the 7 2nd line goals came on the powerplay when they were supplemented with first line players. Doughty needs to earn that massive contract and Martinez has to realize that if he doesn't start chipping in there's an anxious kid in Manchester who'd love to inherit his spot. It looks like A-Mart's trying to see if he can one up JJ in the minus category this season.

only really Doughty, JJ is on pace for a lot of goals, and A-Mart is only expected to score like 5 or 6 this year

anyone watching the hawks game? so much chemistry and active skating by the players, man im jealous. kings are so predictable always in formation, never stepping out to create chances.

if Murray would stop moving guys all over they may build some chemistry. damn hard to build that with linemates when they get changed every other game, practice or period. yet another horrible coaching trait of his. he keeps tinkering with the lines thinking he will "discover lightning in the bottle".

I agree with the above sentiment, although I don't think Terry Murray has tinkered as much with his lineup thus far and they have remained somewhat constant with linemates.

It's not just individual players who need to step up, but entire lines that need to collectively play better. They need more from every line and right now they're not showing results, particularly at even strength.

well i don't wanna dig this "doing the little things right" out again.
But how can you expect something creative or collective when the coach
is more than happy when you connect a pass over 5 feet.

I don't attend the Kings practice.
But i can guarantee you they don't practice special moves based on player skills to outsmart an opponent.

I could drool if i remember the old days Red Wings and thei red army line.
These guys were usind the puck as a flipperball.
They did drop passes and behind back passes because they practiced special moves like that and could trust the linemates to read the game and somebody receiving the puck.
One way to get this creativity is you practice it.
The other one you have 3 linemates who really like each other and have natural chemistry like the Sedins.

Sadly non of these options are available for us

Ditch the shot mentality for the top 2 lines, the Kings don't have front of the net power forwards to put in garbage. Give the defense the green light, the forwards are responsible defensively in order to cover for them when they take chances. Change the PP to a 2-2-1 system, let Johnson and Doughty play the role Dan Boyle plays in SJ.

With the personnel this team has, those totals are embarrassing.

that will be awesome - thanks!

perhaps we should also break them down into segments to see how the kings improve/worsen throughout stretches. what do other people think?

don't wanna make you do too much, though, ziggy, so i'm willing to do that if you want

Kopi scored as many goals as 2. line combined. Not bad.

I'll just keep it simple as is, but if anyone wants to take those numbers further, you are much obliged.

It is rather revealing that Kopitar alone has as many goals as the 2nd line and the bottom six has combined to score as many goals as Scott Parse. Ouch!

Just checked nhl.com. Goals for leader is Philly with 56, Kings are 27th with 28 GF. WOW! I mean come on no way Philly's players are THAT much better than ours. Ridiculous. here's the link if anyone wants to look. http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm...wName=goalsFor

That's coaching for ya. Last season Philly finished 3rd overall in "Goals For" with 256, that's an average of 3.12 goals per game, only two goals behind the 1st place Canucks. The Kings finished 25th in goal scoring last season.

At even strength, Philly finished 2nd in scoring, the Kings finished 17th. Doesn't seem like Philly has missed a beat, meanwhile, the Kings continue to struggle to find offense beyond their top players. It's rather frustrating.

Philly's also had a bit of a more favorable schedule for goal scoring. Beating teams like Ottawa 7-2, Columbus 9-2, and losing to Winnipeg 9-8.

Not to say it isn't an issue.

Even at that, there is no way the Kings can expect to get anywhere with the amount of goals they score. Murray needs to let these guys off the leash for a little bit. Quick is good enough to bail out the team when he needs to.

Stoll's goal was even scored with Brown and Penner on the ice. Not the usual third line.

Stoll with Moreau, Hunter, whoever -- it isn't cutting it.

Flyers also have 43 goals against, 4th most in the league. Last year, they had the ********* goalie combination in the league and were stomped on by the Bruins in the playoffs. Lavy's system is more offensive minded, but it evens out in the end.

And they have had an easy schedule so far. They've played some tough teams, but mostly they've played teams like the Blue Jackets. They actually haven't even played the Penguins yet and they were crushed by Washington.

They've got their own problems. More goals doesn't always make things better. The Kings definitely need more offensive output, but I wouldn't look at the Flyers system and say, that's what I want.
