Broadway Hat

so I know the whole thing is a little corny - but it is exactly the kinda of thing I would like to have when watching a game.

When the Yankees play, I have a ball that Mariano Rivera threw to me at a game that I break out when I need a "Yankee Moment" and a lot of the time - it comes through.

Would have to have the hat to put on as a superstition type thing for NYR games...

anyway - I have looked around a bit but cannot find information about where "the hat" can be found, who makes it etc...from what I can find it looks like they picked it up in Europe but I am thinking I should be able to find one (or one that's close to it) online

anyone have any insights?

I thought that it was a little cruel that the players insisted that they wanted it to be "their thing" and the media subsequently jumped all over it.

This hat thing reminds me of the Yankee 'championship belt' thing they had in 09.

Someone bought the hat in Europe. Brad Richards seems to be the guy who selects which player wears the hat. Maybe Richards bought the hat. He shares Sean Avery's taste for fashion. Its a sharp hat.

I think you're wrong. Richards handed the hat out the first time, but each player that receives the hat passes it on to whomever he thinks is worthy of it. For example, Del Zotto hands out the hat to the next player.

One insight. If you think that you breaking out that ball or wearing a hat actually effects the outcome of a game you need to seek help.

So? Lots of people have stuff like that. I have my little stuffed Giants football that I hold in the 4th quarter of close games.

I have a Rangers hat that has an 8-0 record in games I've worn it to (with 4 shutouts, 2 against the Penguins, one against the Capitals, and one in the big 7-0 win over the Leafs last year).

If being crazy is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Are you sure about that?

The previous wearer hands it out to the next guy?

It appears some other players on the team have input. You don't hear about the previous winner determining which player gets it next. The new guy is awarded with the Broadway Hat as the #1 star of the game.

It's not really that big of a deal.

I do think that's how it works (the previous wearer handing it off). Seem to remember hearing one of the players mention that in a Trautwig interview.

I think he just wanted to tell everyone that some player gave him a baseball.

Anyway, that's one ugly hat.

The previous winner hands it out to the next guy. Last night, when Del Zotto came into the locker room wearing it, a couple of the guys started cheering and congratulating him on wearing it. Kind of a funny moment, actually.

Yes, the current wearer awards it to the next one (assuming they win?). I've heard them say this multiple times.

I like it.

But it's nothing new. The '82 squad passed around a pair of Jordache 'Ooh lala' Sassoons, and the 1926 Cup winners donned a long black Chesterfield.
