Can someone give me a quick lowdown on the USHL? As a college hockey fan, I'm starting to enjoy watching USHL but am wondering why it seems that most college players play for only a few of the teams (Sioux City, Des Moines and Omaha come to mind). What is it about teams like Waterloo and Cedar Rapids that elite college-bound players avoid?
Waterloo had Ebert play for them last year and Taylor Cammarata this year.
Cedar Rapids had both DeAngelo and Didier play for them last year.
The USHL is really a development league between the main ones (CHL, NCAA) and Midget, Highschool hockey. And a ton of their top talent only plays 1 or 2 seasons which is why you see a flux of teams standings between seasons.
Example: Next year Dubuque looks to be downgrade due to their talent leaving for college while Waterloo will be one of the top teams.
