I've already been raving about him forever on these boards. However it's worth noting that this Thursday Mikael Renberg said that he thinks Silfberberg is the best player in the league. I don't know if i agree but that's some pretty high praise coming from him.

Wow.
What's Renberg's affiliation to hockey in Sweden nowadays?
Is Silfverberg the youngest player in the SEL to wear a "C" this year?
I'm so pumped to hear all this praise being heaped on Silfverberg this year. Watching him in the rookie camp, world championships and seeing what games I could of him last year (as well as highlights, reports, etc.) he's still my favorite prospect in the Sens system I wish he hadn't injured his shoulder and was playing in the tournament coming up.

Definitely bummed he stayed in the SEL but it was the best for his development. Next year this kid needs to be slotted in the top 6. Too much overall talent.

Do people really think Loui Eriksson is realistic? I havent seen much at all of Silfverberg but I cant imagine he will have anywhere near that puck stripping ability or passing/creativity. Also doesnt have quite the speed, either.

I'd say its probably pretty optimistic at this point. Sounds like a character kid with high expectation and a pretty devastating shot, nice soft hands too and he goes to the net. Could be the type of player that the coach is willing to give opportunity too, and that's a big part of players exceeding expectations.

Yeah I have very little doubt that he will be a 45-60 point guy, I just think his skillset besides his shot and grittiness is very shallow compared to Erikssons. I could see him becoming a 70 point scorer even, but when I watch Eriksson I see the focal point of an attack, a guy who makes everyone he plays with look much much better. Can you see Silfverberg ever being that kind of player? I cant but again, havent seen much of him.

Eriksson was never expected to develop into what he is today. After breaking into the league, Eriksson looked like a young solid two way player capable of scoring 20 a year, but few expected the rapid progression into one of the games premier wingers.
It's optimistic to expect Silfverberg to develop into Eriksson of today, but it isn't a ridiculous expectation. I expect Silfverberg will be the type of player who like Eriksson, will need a couple of years before he really begins to excell in the NHL.
