Hextall to Columbus?

Just word of mouth at the moment, but I heard that Hextall to Columbus GM spot is very possible and soon.

Mods, I have no link, so you can do what you want with this, but just wanted it to get out there.

Ahh, here's one.

Aportzline Possible that #CBJ would have to compensate club w draft picks if they take a high-ranking official at this point of season.
about 14 hours ago by Aaron Portzline, Sports Writer, Columbus Dispatch
Aportzline Talk around NHL is that #Kings asst. GM Ron Hextall could be headed to #CBJ, but he's denied contact through LA Times' @helenenothelen

It's only a matter of time until Hextall gets a GM job, but it's still going to suck to lose him. Maybe he'll blow things up in Columbus and trade Nash to the Kings.

I'm sure Hextall will be interested in taking a player or two he's worked with along with him. Would suck to lose him but there could be a positive in there somewhere.

Columbus could do a lot worse as far as hires go. A whole lot worse.

Yeah they actually talked about the rumour on CBC's hotstove last night. Of course your link says Hextall and Lombardi are denying being invovled in any talks.

I dunno who, just in general I would expect him to be looking to sign one of our free agents or make a trade for a guy he likes that he knows Lombardi may not...something like that perhaps.

Lombardi sez. No one has contacted him about ron hextall. Teams would need permission from kings to hire hextall away.

hell, I would give DD for Nash

Not even close. I am all for Hextall going out and getting a job, he has earned it and has paid his dues which will always be appreciated by this organization, but no way would I deal Doughty for Nash, we have the offensive players in our system to get the job done, we need to change strategy and systems before we blow up the lineup or trade key guys because honestly our top 6 is very good regardless of Penner and his woes.

That is a joke, right? That would be so stupid on LA part.

I highly doubt DL trades DD, but as crazy as it sounds, that is something I would have to strongly consider.

I would consider trading Doughty for Nash... With Voynov lurking in the background.

What sort of compensation will we get from CBJ if Hextall leaves? A 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th rounder? Any similar cases?

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt the NHL say no more compensation for executives after the Kings gave up a second round pick to sign DL.

One bad week from Slava (Which will happen) ,and people will want him back in the AHL. Drew is a Franchise Defense Player.

This is why Fans are not GM's. Although I think the Fan's would have ran Columbus Better.

Hextall with a big thank you to Lombardi. Nash for Penner, Bernier and Martinez.

You're correct, some people will be saying that. Probably the same people crying for VV to replace AM will be the same ones to stab VV in the back one week later.

Not for me. I just find Nash highly overrated.

If people find Penner frustrating They need to watch Nash on a nightly Basis. He is almost a Clone with more offensive Upside.

I am watching Doughty on a nightly basis and after the contract holdup, his questionable personal party life and his subpar last year on the ice I am frusterated at him.

I guess we all need someone to be frusterated at!

My Top 5 reasons for trading DD for Nash. I should also prefix this by saying I am a huge Doughty fan even if frustrated.

1. Johnson doesn't mesh with DD. Its like he gets casterated every time DD is in the lineup. Johnson has the talent to be a top all round Dman.
2. Nash helps anemic offence. How does a team counter a third nasty Star. Who do they double team up front, Kopitar? Nash? Richards? Size, skill, speed, true sniper. 50 goal potential
3. Fills a position of need with a position of weakness
4. Makes Penner expendable
5. Allows Voynov a shot, if he fails - Hickey

Blues just fired Payne and hired Hitchcock. Dominos will probably start falling around the league

If Hextall has the standard assistant GM contract, most have a "if I get a GM offer" clause

Some Gm's refuse to allow their assistants to have that clause--but most have it

Bjs have to ask to talk to Ronny to be allowed to make the offer, but of the Kings refuse to let them talk to Hex--Hex might not be the happiest camper in the world after

Makes sense. Kings already have Quick and Bernier with Jones and Zatkoff waiting in the wings. Hextall seems to be the odd man out here.

It would be a great opportunity for Hextall. The BJs are in shambles, and working with DL has given Hextall plenty of experience in turning the team around.

i think this could be a good thing if he gets hired. The more friends DL has around the league, the more access he has to players of different teams. There's a reason why we're Flyers west.

Only problem is that Hextall knows all that DL knows, so it may be expensive to pry a valuable prospect away from Hextall.
