Why to make that assessment from a couple of games of television coverage. Coburn's not flashy, what he does well are the things you don't really appreciate until someone's not doing them. Watch play-off Coburn. Hell, watch regular season Coburn during a big game. He gets plenty mean and consistently is among the Flyers with the most hits. I rarely ever see Coburn getting turned around by anyone. People who complain about his consistency probably have offensive expectations from him that he meets once every five games . . . that's not who he is. His defense is very consistent.

I'd do this deal without hesitating.

We couldn't even get Schwartz alone for that package let alone their top defensive prospect and another solid dman too.

The Blues need to ADD players, not be shipping them out. We probably can't resign both Carle and Coburn if we want to bring in a future #1/2 dman (and I assume this is yours and everyone elses thoughts with making these threads).

Here's what I would do and it has minimal impact of players moving while yielding the maximum improvement:

Trade Coburn + 2012 2nd (+ conditional 2013 2nd on Coburn resigning) to StL for their 2012 1st rnd pick (projected to be top 10 in the draft, StL fans seemed to be ok with this trade)

Trade Voracek to the Jets for Bogosian (they have approximately the same value, the Jets have a surplus of top end dmen and we have a surplus of top 6 forwards).

By trading Voracek we open up a spot on the top 6 for one of Schenn, Read or Simmonds (not a terrible downgrade). Coburn is replaced by Bogosian who is better than Coburn, Carle and Meszaros right now while being significantly younger too (and with still having the potential to be a #1/#2 dman once Timonen and Pronger are done). We then only have one pending UFA dman to resign in Carle. We also get a probable top 10 pick in a draft where they are saying there could be as many as 12 players available who have "franchise player" potential with most of those being dmen. We also retianed our own 2012 1st which can be used to draft a replacement for Voracek (2nd liner potential) or use that in a trade to bring in someone like Suter or Weber if they become available.

I would be interested to see the #3s on other teams. I think you might be right.

Voracek for Bogosian would be an interesting deal.
