Temporary I believe, they will play Clemmer if he plays well, they'll ship him out for whatever Tallon can get (mid level draft pick), it's a good thing to have a goalie problem, and if there are no takers I see us waiving Clemmensen.

Purely a business move. They're going to try to move Clemmer. Not much to discuss here. Once they can move him up Markstrom will come. All about $$$$$.

As well as Markstrom has been playing he could still use some more starts on a regular basis so it's not like this will be bad for him.

Not a bad move. Get Clemmer some game sup here to see how how he does. If he struggles, ship him out and then bring back Markstrom. In the mean time, give Markstrom some more playing time.

I wonder if New Jersey would want him. That's an organization who is familiar with him, their goaltending has not been so hot, and if Pete likes him he might put in a good word.

Teams would probably be hesitant to take on Clemmer since he hasn't stepped on the ice this season.

Let's see how this plays out over the next month.

In the meanwhile- Markstrom can dominate the AHL and work on his game. Better than sitting on the bench.

I read this as Clemmensen assigned to San Antonio then got all confused at the reaction. Very disappointed.

This. Let Clemmer come back, hopefully be a contributor for us, get some wins, and see if we can move him by the deadline. If he can play well, that contract could be beneficial to someone.

Completely agree. I think that Markstrom has played well enough to stay. However, we need to showcase Clemmer at the NHL level in order to generate any interest. Meanwhile, Markstrom will start in SA, get his time and once we can move Clemmer, Markstrom will be back.

This is purely a business decision since we can send Markstrom down without penalty.

Clemmensen had a few stinkers last season, but for the most part I thought he was pretty solid.

I think people are just hating on him because Markstrom is being sent down, when in reality Clemmensen has proven to be a pretty solid back-up. The problem is that I think we all see Markstrom as closer to a #1 goaltender than both Theo and Clemm.

It is what it is though and we'll see how it plays out.

I wonder if Clemmensen plays tomorrow night? It seems like every time we play Toronto over the past few years, he's been in net.

I guess I'll be following the Rampage now.

I can't say I completely agree with this decision, but I understand the logic behind it. Markstrom shouldn't take this as a reflection of how he played because he did just about everything that was asked and more in his time with the big club. I'm sure in the end it won't be a bad decision and I hope it motivates Clemmer more to play well or else he'll be rather worthless to keep.

I don't see this as a good thing. But I hope you're right.

If Clemmer suck, then there will be no market for him (or very limited). If he plays well, then he keeps Markström down in the AHL.

Good news is if the Maple Leafs call up someone from the Marlies because of Connolly's injury, Clemmer saw them on Saturday!...

I back 100% Tallon on this. This is not about the Weiss era now this is about the next wave of good develop prospects in Huby , Markstrom era. We just saw a glimpse of whats in store, and I can't wait for next year. We waited more than 10 years, 1 more is not going to make a difference. I like Tallon sticking to the plan like glue.

Your opinion is based on the premise that it is to Markstrom's detriment to have stayed. There is no basis for that opinion. His play demonstrated the requisite talent and maturity to play NHL hockey day in and out. He would play at least half the remaing games. so he would get plenty of action. He is by far the best of the three goalies.
in no regard does it ruin "the plan", and moreover, if a plan is not malleable, it is not a plan.

This was, sadly, just about money.

Easy. We waive him, send him down, and bring up Markstrom. Clemmer's contract is done after this season, IIRC.

Goaltending at this level is all about consistency. He hasn't proven he is able to play at a high level consistently. While this is in fact due to circumstance, it is still an issue. I have no doubt that if he dominates the AHL for an extended period of time, he will be brought back to the NHL.

His time in the NHL at this point would be split with Theodore. He will be the clear #1 in the AHL and will get plenty of time to prove himself further.
