I blame Eric for being a **** in many instances of playing against his brother. This hit was not the first time he played dirty against him.

They have a rivalry, but they don't go after each other to get the other injured. The mere fact that you think Eric is out to hurt his brother Marc is just appalling. I can understand if they had some mutual dislike for each other, but nothing has shown that, they get along. Why would Eric hurt his brother?

he wouldn't have hit him as hard knowing what happened now, duh.

he hit him, and if it wasn't his brother who's had our boy concussed, the garden'd let him have it.

i wouldn't mind seeing avery jawing at him, at the minimum.

I think it would be horrible to boo him, it is his brother, he in no means wanted to hurt him, and he does not want to think that the general public thinks he did it on purpose.

I'm just saying what I've observed in recent years. There have been cheap shots before and I've always felt they were because he was trying to play extra tough against his brother.

Riiiight so every fan who would boo is not smart and too stupid. And the people who boo are the classless ones?

Has he hit hard and played harder, yes, but I've never seen Eric go out of his way to hurt Marc or vice versa. There's no gain injuring his brother, all he'd do is his split his family apart.

I'm just saying, I think it's classless to boo him for something he had no intentions of doing. It was an accident and worst of all, he hurt his brother. I don't see the point of putting it on him. The guy is already having a rough year, why should a bunch of rowdy fans boo him?

I'm not saying he plays with the intent to seriously injure his brother...but that's certainly a risk when you ramp up your intensity to "win" those battles.

And Marc does exactly the same thing.

Don't remember 1 instance where Marc's play was borderline dirty.

Marc Staal got a concussion. Personally? I think he's done for the year...and I wouldn't be shocked if his career was over.

But it's part of the game. People get hurt, concussions unfortunately happen.

The players know the risk and take it. For a legal hit, there is no need to boo him.
i think saying that you wouldn't be surprised if his career was over is a stretch. his career isn't over.

what people need to realize is that brothers will play harder against each other. it's going to happen. they will play competitive with one another and marc would have checked him as well. it was a clean hit and it was a doozie. like eric said, if he knew it would have caused him these medical issues he wouldnt have hit him at all.

plus, i'm sure eric got an earfull from his parents.

..I'm 50/50 on whether or he should be boo'd. It was a clean hit but that was a hit with the intent to hurt him (hesitant to say injure).

Regardless you can probably imagine how Eric Staal feels about that hit and if the crowd gets on him over it --its hard to imagine not effecting his play.

Was it a dirty hit? Nah.
Did an older bro take advantage of a younger bro in vulnerable position? Yah.
Do they hear about at the family dinner table? Words probably don't have to be said about that.

No matter what, the boos will be deafening when Eric is announced and whenever he touches the puck. Book it.

When the refs call a bad penalty and the fans boo, do you feel ashamed to be apart of such a classless fanbase?
The hit was clean and being his brother, I'm sure Eric already feels bad enough about it. Do you think Marc wants the fans to boo his brother? Yeah, so classless. If it wasn't his brother, it would be a different story.

The hit was a hockey play. It was a clean, hard hit, no intent to injure.

Eric is a great hockey player, and I'm sure he feels like **** for injuring his brother like that. In that situation, I don't really think he cares if he's boo'd or not. I think I've got a fairly good idea what Marc would prefer, though.

I wouldn't boo him.

Some of you really don't get it, but that's not much of a surprise.

Marc and Ovechkin always go at it. If one of Staal's checks hurt Ovechkin similarly and Caps fans hated Marc for it, those of you screaming hatred at Eric would be calling the Ovechkin fans fools that don't understand the game.

Reminds me of the idiots on the roads who constantly cut people off that then go crazy when they get cut off, likewise. No consistency in their ability to think.

Heck yeah boo him.

Make his life miserable on Friday.

If he's miserable, he won't play well.

If he's not playing well, we have a better chance to win.

I gotta admit I was pissed about it for a while, I still am. I even wished a few hateful things on Eric before my wife talked some sense into me. But I'm still pissed about it.

I don't think he was purposely trying and hurt his brother, but I do get the sense that there is a little bit of over competitiveness between them (especially with the way they were at the All Star Draft last year). So maybe Eric was thinking this was his chance to show his brother up by knocking him on his a**, not thinking that he could hurt him as bad as he did. Bet he definitely wishes he could go back and maybe rethink that hit just a little.

All that said, Rangers fans at the Garden probably will boo the ever loving crap out of him. It's not right, and I wouldn't do it, but I kinda understand why some people will, and I'm glad I won't have to be there to make the choice.

Oh, and no one on the Rangers will go after him.

Best post in this thread agree 100%. This board (well HF in general) is full of homers and hypocrites.

This is my thought. Eric is his teams best player and if we can knock him off his game and help OUR team why wouldn't you boo? I'm going Friday and I want a win. Possibly affecting Eric Staal's play gives MY team a better chance to win.

Nothing against Eric personally, I think there was no intent to injure. He's a big boy he can handle it.
