I have no problem with people wanting to boo Eric Staal. People pay good money to watch this sport and are entitled to boo or cheer whenever they want.

With that said, I would not be booing him but I would be cheering if someone hits (cleanly) him. It is hockey after all.

Here's why I want to see Eric get his head bashed in: he's lying when he says he didn't know who he hit. Watch the video. He lined up Marc for a solid 2-3 seconds before contact. Also, I don't get all of the "clean hit" comments here. He clearly makes first contact with the very top of Marc' shoulder, inches from head, and it's unclear if his elbow hit's Marc's head with the follow-through. Was it "dirty"? I wouldn't call it dirty, but it was cheap and it was careless at the very least. I wish Eric would be a ----ing man and be honest and say "My brother and I compete very hard against each other and I took things too far with that hit", rather than spewing this BS. Now, I'm hoping Deveaux goes after him, even if it means an extended PP for the 'Canes. ****** Eric Staal.

Part of the fun of being at live sporting events is expressing yourself about things that have effected your team.

Players get booed because they did something negative to your team, it's why Jets fans boo Tom Brady and why Knicks fans booed Reggie Miller. Should we not boo those guys since they technically played clean and did nothing wrong other than play their game? Eric Staal, whether he meant to or not, took out our best defensemen, the man will get booed. Sending somebody after him is a bit extreme, but of course you boo him!

I think you have a better argument of not booing Lebron James than not booing Eric Staal.

Potvin's hit was clean too, and that has been a chant for many, many years.

Since when do we take opposing players' feelings into consideration while deciding to boo or not? Eric Staal is on a conference opponent. Why wouldn't we want him to be off his game(especially when we are the team playing against him)?

If Eric doesn't consider that it's his brother he's hitting like that, why should we consider that they're brothers? Boo him. Throw him off his game. Help the NY Rangers get two points.

I don't think we need him to play any worse than he already is right now

My fantasy team agrees

Anyone ever consider how Marc might feel when his brother gets booed over something that's got to be a very emotional family subject to begin with?

To my mind, nothing positive comes from this. So, I wouldn't do it.

I'm sure this has been a strain on the entire family, and the best thing that could happen is Marc is ultimately OK, and they all are able to get past a very unfortunate incident.

Salt in the wound for both sides of the equation.

Reminds me of the idiots on the roads who constantly cut people off that then go crazy when they get cut off, likewise. No consistency in their ability to think.

Nothing against Eric personally, I think there was no intent to injure. He's a big boy he can handle it.
This is exactly how I feel about the situation. Try to knock a great player off his game.

As an Isles fan, this made me laugh.

I hope he doesn't get boo'd. Poor guy feels bad enough about what happened.

I'm sure it's really bothering him so booing him won't change a thing.
I dispute that it was a clean play. This year it could easily get a suspension. But either way that was a hit with bad intentions, I don't care if you hurt a Ranger legally - time to legally or illegally show Eric Staal what's up.

So many pansy responses in this thread, I'm surprised.

Eric Staal is a tool, if you watch him play enough you start to realize that. I'm not sure he feels bad, nor do I care unless he's willing to turn that into action like sitting out voluntarily until his brother comes back.

Addendum: Best case scenario Avery takes off his skate and tries to stab Eric Staal, instantly becomes 5th greatest Ranger of all time

Thats as pansy as it gets.

Sorry, but two wrongs don't make a right, nor does it bring Marc back.

I'll boo him. Clean or not, the result is still the same. His action cause our best defensemen a bad injury.

I'd boo him! maybe he doesn't deserve it, but it's hard not to boo when everyone else is. It's fun. He's a professional athlete, he shouldn't let it get to him, although it is sort of a unique case because he injured his brother for who knows how long.

Oh Boo Hoo.

Next time Eric should think before he hits is unsuspecting brother who is looking down.

I will be one of the 19,000 booing that POS everytime he touches the puck.

Part of the game.

Maybe next time his brother should have his head up.

See how that works? The people booing are the ones that would be cheering wildly if it was Marc laying that hit on Eric.

And so is booing, so whats the problem?

It's not like we are throwing batteries at him when he's on the ice.

Boo that sum*****. I can't stand booing our own players, but Eric? He should be boo'd. And he will be.

Maybe because Eric Staal didn't do anything wrong? Remember when Stepan concussed Mike Green and everyone here thought Caps fans were overreacting with their anger?

It's also juvenile and frankly embarrassing as a Rangers fan.

Come on, you're talking to the folks who scream 'Avery!" like he means anything more than entertainment. They want entertainment, the game is obviously not enough for them. At those prices I kinda cant blame them

Oh god, then i hope you don't go to games. Booing is juvenile and embarrassing? That comment is pretty embarrassing.
