I thought Couturier again exceeded his already strong level of defensive play tonight. He was a rock on a number of crucial PK sequences down the stretch.

He was on the ice on the critical 2 man down with the faceoff in our end. He won the draw and cleared the puck. Later he tied up an opponent coming right down the middle for a dangerous chance. He also made some fine passes - he was one of the very best Flyers on the ice today. His play has been way more than just adequate for an 18 year old - he is among the better players on the team right now.

Hard to say, think of how good this kid may have been with a year of seasoning on the Phantoms...
Plus, I don't think we can call him a prospect anymore, making him effectively worthless.
In retrospect, probably should have sent him down

I am truly amazed at how many brilliant young players we have.....not even the 84/85 squad with all of its great young talent can match this team.....astounding.....

I would just like to point out, that I was rediculed at the start of the year when I mentioned that Couturier would be better served on the fourth line in the NHL than back in Juniors.

I would just like to mention that again.

I was one of the ones that wanted to let him develop on the phantoms for a little longer... this is why I am not in charge.

I'm pretty sure it was in the preseason when Laviolette said that Couturier was his best defensive player.

Game 1 of the regular season at the latest. That was Lavy's response when reporters asked him about having Couturier out late in the game vs Boston.

I confess, I ridiculed you, or at least the idea of keeping him up.

The best part is that it's not like a normal Flyers fourth line, and he's the reason. When Rinaldo gets benched and G is double-shifted with them, it's another legit scoring line. Awesome.

After tonight there are 5-7 GMs who are punching themselves in their man-units. I can't believe how great this kid has been. I wanted him in the minors, but that's because I didn't know that he was awesome and crap. Also, for a while he looked really small and got thrown around at first...then he adapted and that stopped.

Yup I tried to mention that Lavy would be better server playing this kid sparingly on the fourth line and giving him increased penalty kill time.

I honestly didn't think he would become our shutdown C though. He has surprised me in that regard as to just how quickly that he has adapted in the NHL
