PP vs PK

Simply put, would you rather have:

A great PP and avg PK

OR

A great PK and avg PP

I'm going with PP since you can control the amount of times you're on the PK to a degree.

didn't think of it like that, but having a great PK allows you to play more aggressively at even strength.

loosing a breakaway, hook em, your PK will bail you out.

Need to send a message, crush someone and if it is happens to be an illegal hit, your PK can bail you out.

want to play a bit more physical, PK will make it less dangerous to do so.

With Derek "I-dive-for-a-5-on-3" Roy on the team?

Definitely PP.

Can I be greedy and take option C -- both?

Having a dominant PP is great in that teams become afraid to take penalties against 'em and may back away from physical play as a result.

Having a dominant 'kill allows a team to play more aggressively which has its own benefits. If push comes to shove, the penalty kill would be my preference by a hair.

Having both being dominant would of course be the best.

We're 2nd best on PK and 9th on PP... ideally would like top 5 PP, but this will work for now.

Yeah, for all the grief the PP gets for its failings, they still manage to get it done enough to statistically rank pretty well.

Because of Ehrhoff i watched much Nucks games and i must say the Sabres have to work alot on the PP. The passing isnt by far not on the Level of the Nucks last season. That made Ehrhoff much more dangerous as he is for the sabres till now

Yeah, was pretty surprised.

Nice to see our PK get a shorty, too. Adds another element teams have to respect.

I don't think either specialty team is more important than the other. Goalscoring is hard enough to accomplish in today's NHL at even strength so power plays are critical - yet, because goals aren't easy to come by, stopping the other team from scoring on man-advantages is equally crucial.

This poll question is really like the "chicken-or-the egg" kind of debate IMO....

good point. with shooters like stafford, boyes and pominville, this is something that we need to improve on. However most of our powerplay sucess and style deals with getting the puck through to vanek for his handywork. It's a good thing that Ehrhoff is signed long term.

the power play is only good because of vanek, and the attention he gets. The execution itself is not very good.

goals win games. Number one PP = best offence
14 out of the top 15 PPs are teams with a winning record
2 of top3 have most goals

Goals fill seats and wins games

I'll take the PK.

You should be able to control the other team 5 on 5 effort wise. A solid PK forces the other team to beat you at even strength.

A great PP can be stopped by a great PK.

PK by a mile. I'm a man of defense obviously, but having a dominant PK is second to none. On top of playing more aggressively, it allows you to dictate the pace of the game at that point. Also, a good kill is the ultimate motivator. Good PK stops a good PP

I hate that tired cliche, and its not necessarily true.

Boston: 5th GPG / 2nd GAG
Chicago: 3rd GPG / 5th GAG
Pittsburgh: 6th GPG / 17th GAG
Detroit: 3rd GFG / 1st GAG
Anaheim: 8th GFG / 7th GAG
Carolina 3rd GFG / 19th GAG
Tampa 3rd GFG / 10th GAG

Given the evidence, give me the Power Play and the goals.
