Yes I appreciate you realizing that we've probably beaten this into the Earth's inner crust but it's way more complicated than just picking one or the other. All things being absolutely equal on a PS3, probably Weber, but obviously there are many details to play around with.

My first inclination was to post "both", but let's try to either stick to the point of the thread or not post in it.

Personally, I would have said Suter since Weber likely brings a bigger return, but since you said keep the potential trade return out of it I'm going with Weber. The better overall player (slighty), captain of the team, brings a mean streak and some grit, and Blum may be able to replace Suter (though I don't think Blum will be quite as good as Suter).

This is what I'm interested in. Obviously lots of details, but all things being equal, who do you keep. As a casual observer I've heard everything from Suter making Weber the player he is, to the beast power of Weber giving him insane value.

The reason for me saying not to include trade value is because I think we can all agree Weber probably has higher trade value, but does that make him the better player? The more important defenseman to the team? As well as the fact that their trade value is affected by one being an RFA and the other being a UFA.

I'm sure every Preds fan wants to keep both, but I'm also sure most every Pred fan has started to form the thought in their head about who they would rather Nashville keep.

How can nearly every post on this topic I read before posting this say you guys think one will likely leave in the offseason, but then posed with the question of who to keep everyone answers "both?"

They work best together. Each brings a different style of play.

If we had to choose one, you'd imagine that it would be The Captain, SW but after everything that happened this offseason it makes it seem a little more difficult.

Or do you try and go after keeping Suter and letting your C walk or get traded?

It sucks that arguably our two best players ever are in such tight scenarios AND on the same pairing. It's not like we're dealing with a LWer and a Dman.

The Rinne deal and recent quotes from Poile and the owners.

Are you saying Nashville fans were saying we couldn't keep both? Or just the general public? Because Preds fans have always been told and thus maintained that there is money and desire to keep both. Recent quotes from ownership not onl reaffirm that, but also commit to getting the offensive talent up to par as well.

For the sheer sake of your question, I'd keep Weber if I had to pick, bt in reality I don't believe we'll have to.

As an outsider looking in and knowing some of the fans personaly and hearing their thoughts I have a feeling Suter tests the market. I say Weber is your biggest must have after Rinnie.

Suter. His transition game is near perfection. Preds suffer mightily when they can't clear their own zone. And sure, Weber is a big hitter and can play a gritty game, but isn't allowed to play his physical style. We can't afford for him to sit in the box, or miss 15-20 games with a broken hand.

I chose Suter. I love Weber's cannon and hitting, but I love Suter's DEFENSE more.

And all it took was some of the best players in the world to become free agents at the same time. Who knew?

that will be something to see...

would mean signing Weber and Suter for about 15 mill total and adding another 7-10 million in salary, assuming the cap goes up

May I ask a question,

How is the excitement with this different than the excitement for the one last splash (i.e. Forsberg) before the fire-sale?

THe thought crossed my mind, I won't lie...but...I have to have faith that Leipold and our new group are different beasts.

that is why I voted Suter, plus Weber would bring a wicked return.

the difference is, leipold went for broke in desperation, hoping a deep playoff run would finally generate increased attendance and increased corporate interest in the preds, having failed utterly to build relationships in the community otherwise.

the new owners have already made great strides in increasing attendance and increasing corporate sponsorship, and IMO if they are gonna break the bank its as a 'final push" to get us to Cup contender status which should cement this as a hockey town permanently.

I'm not quite sure yet if this makes me very happy or extremely worried. Probably a bit of both.
