Oh, and stat of the day:

Faceoffs:
Pominville 12-2
Gaustad 15-5
Roy 12-7
Adam 5-4
Ellis 2-4
Boyes 1-0
Stafford 0-2

Team: 50-25

Awesomeness. And seeing Pommer that high? Even more awesome. He needs more love than he's getting in this thread (which is already a lot), Pominville has been flat out amazing.

Hey I am by no means a blinded by love Miller apologist. But blaming every goal every game every time on him is rather ..... silly.<----- kept in clean.

The Sabres looked about as dominant as a team could look against Calgary.

Yeah, I saw at some point the faceoffs were like 49-24 or something. Unreal.

This is fair. We should all stop sniping at each other over this.

This. They still have the Thrashers' roster. Sabres have been playing like garbage at home all season, especially against SE teams. They just can't get up for these games.

This Pominville doing center-y things experiment is a rather nice surprise.

I thought the Gerbe call was a Dive too and Roy definitely went down easy. But like you said, why even hit him or poke Gerbe's leg even a little bit?! That team is sooo bad, the refs could have called a penalty against them virtually EVERY shift. Vanek gets his stick Slashed out of his hands, Ehrhoff gets Boarded...Nothing called, so I give Roy and Gerbe high marks for being savvy enough too realize that the refs owed them a few calls even despite having a ton of PP time.

That sort of "Diving" is the #1 reason why the Flyers went on too round two last spring, and we did not. I'm not a fan of it, but the players don't get too choose the battle field, they only get to figure out how to survive it. They are learning.

I remember someone posting some stats about Pominville when he wore the C during the alternate captaincy thing. His stats were unreal. Looks like Lindy made the right choice.

Also, I am really satisfied with Boyes, can't say it enough. He's been great on the PP, looks better with Goose and Gerbe. Now if we could only get Leino and Stafford really going.

Oh and our defense didn't blow so much.

I don't have a negative opinion of Miller as a goalie, I have an indifferent opinion about goaltending in general.

in regards to tonight's game. I think he was not sharp. The 2nd goal, he read the play late. the Byfuglien goal, he barely reacted to the shot, the goal that came off the boards... i don't know what he was doing there, he took himself way out of the play.

Miller is still fighting it hard. I'm not going to sugar coat it and say everything wasn't his fault. But, after the second period he did settle down a bit and make some good saves.

It's so Buffalo fans like to throw Miller under a bus just cause Enroth has looked really good in the few starts he's been given. It reminds me of how Bills fans act every time there's a new QB in town. Let him ride it out. IF he continues to stink for 3-4 game in a row then you make the switch.

Don't take the bait. Miller was exceedingly average tonight. Can't get around that. Let them alone try to wean the meter towards "awful" and look stupid in the process instead of validating them with a response.

I should dig up joshjull's center depth thread...right now it looks like:

Pominville
Roy
Gaustad
(Adam/Leino/Hecht)
(McCormick/Ellis)
(Boyes)

As Jame mentioned in the chat, Pommer is basically the de facto center on that line--specifically defensively. And while Adam was a nice surprise, Pominville is that true #1 center we've been searching for.

Pominville played 26 minutes tonight. Roy had almost 25 minutes of ice time. I know there was an OT, but holy crap that's a lot for a forward.

Wow.. what a crazy game tonight! It was very entertaining (not always for the right reasons I'm sure you will agree)

I was very impressed with the Sabres passing, and am also really happy that you guys have an owner who loves the team and city.

Congrats.

Whenever they weren't turtling up trying to sit on one of the four leads that they blew, I actually thought they looked remarkably organized offensively. Granted our defense did their best to stay out of their way, but they made some crisp plays.

This is why we should eventually try Boyes on that line. He already plays with them on the PP and he's playing way better than Adam right now. Vanek-Pommer-Boyes gogogo.

Also Gerbe-Goose-Tropp (the line that gets thrown out after every PP) has looked great, no reason that can't turn into a regular thing.

You guys need to clean up your defense or else you're not going to go very far in the playoffs with that sort of sloppiness.

I'd like to see Ruff go back to his old days.... Of implementing a Defensive first Hockey Club. He seems to have gotten away from that.

Disclaimer: This does not mean I want Ruff fired.

Good
Vaneks goal
Great assist from boyes
Tropp played with speed and toughness.
The top line powerplay
mccormick and gaustad
gragnani has some tools.

Bad

second powerplay unit is a non factor
gerbe slashed a stick and broke his and then went after the defensemen's
adam's soft hands loosing pucks. lack of shooting
Ehrhoff has totally lost his point pressure shooting.
stafford did not get the puck on his stick enough.
ellis did not belong on the ice.

Ugly

Our light forecheck made it difficult to enter the zone.
