I'm assuming that the new guy is on a two-way deal and can play in Springfield until a deal can be sprung using one of those 47 centers for an asset we can use. If that is not the case, then I dunno.

He's on a one way. That's why we couldn't send him to WBS without losing him on waivers.

Last year he was money for a few months. His injury really derailed his play and it seems like he came back and was a step slower, including this year too.

If he can get back to playing like he did last year before the injury, you got a good player with some potential. Worst case scenario, you have a smart RH 3C/4C tweener.

He was a favorite of Bylsma. Just no room for him on the Pens. Speculation is this means Sid will likely be back soon. I think Richard Park took Letestu's job more or less with his solid play. Just a numbers game at the end.
Our GM is an expert in getting guys with long term injuries.... Thank you for the bio, I'd take an HF board fans opinion over our censored media any day.

Well, then something's got to give. We'll see what happens.

Age and the number of games played are the only things that matter. It is irrelevant if the player has a one way or two way deal.

My first reaction was like many of you, "WTF".

But I think we have to take Howson's word that THIS trade wasn't a "precursor". Though of course, this doesn't preclude coming trades.

What it DOES DO is allow Howson to keep our young guys in Springfield.... allowing them to mature, instead of sucking it up in Cbus.

It also adds experience to the room. Dare I say it: "even playoff experience."

Watched him play quit a bit in Pittsbugh. Nice player - definitely can play a role and play it well.

But if this move is "not a precursor," then I don't get it.

It may have been said in here but I the way I see it, if he can replace Pahlsson's prowess on faceoffs I say Sammy is the one to move. He offers nothing offensively. Hasn't offered the shutdown center role we crave, is slow and quite frankly I'm wondering what he really offers this team. And at nearly $3M he isn't worth keeping.

Now it doesn't sound like Letestu is a defensive stalwart either but his offensive game is better and if he can win faceoffs that's the first part of playing defense - have the puck so you have control and don't have to defend. Good visiion and hockey sense...put him as the 4th line C and drop Vermette to 3rd line C to replace Pahlsson. Carter, Vermette, DMac, Letestu and Umberger can all take faceoffs and win them. Put Brass back at 2C with Umby.

Why I'm going through this I have no idea....it's lipstick on a pig!

Not even a flattering shade of color either. No offense to Mark, but this isn't a "shock the room"-move, which is what is needed if they are going to roll with Howson and Arniel the rest of the season.

Someone or multiple people did just become expendable.... from the rumors we've been hearing that teams are calling about Brass, I hope its him, seems like he might return more than any piece this organization could move not named "Nash".

I would try immediately to begin putting together a trade involving any combination of these pieces: Pahlsson, Vermette, Brass, Russell, Mason (if you can find anybody that will take him), 2nd/3rd/ rounders, Maybe a few of the mid teir prospects for a solid top four defenseman and goaltending.

I have no problem with any of the players you mention, but the draft picks and prospects should be hidden away from Howson right now.

I think, barring a miracle run, it's likely he will pay the price eventually for the team's struggles this year. It is a deep draft and we've already lost our 4th and 5th rounder. Howson starts using the 2nd and 3rd rounder to save his job and the next regime is left with little to work with if they are hoping to switch directions. I think our prospect pool is decent and I don't want to see it destroyed with wild moves to save a lost season.

However, if we can get a solid defensive defenseman and goaltending help using the NHL players you listed, then go for it.

Ah, you missed the point of my dry humor. I'm sorry. I believe the meaning of any communication is how it's received.

There are 29 teams in the league. Shero could have traded him to many of them. Getting an NHL player for a 4th round pick is a very good deal. Certainly other teams would have given a 4th or even more for Letestu. My failed attempt at humor was that Shero is punishing him by sending him to Columbus.

Here's the start of the "depth" acquistions that Howson failed to address in the offseason.

3/4th line tweener on a good team. Injury prone. Had one good year of production. Sounds like the perfect Howson player.

Thinking about this trade has me scratching my head more and more.

We're the worst in the league on defense and goaltending, so our answer is to bring in a mediocre two way grinder.

Sounds like a slower, injury-prone version of Vermette (but cheaper...)

I guess if nothing else, it will enable Howson to keep one or more of the AHL players in the AHL to develop? I dunno... Don't imagine this is the last move though.

We gave up a 4th rounder for some depth, I'm not sure why people are getting their panties in a bunch over a minor deal like this that seems to improve the organization.

Something's got to give here. I'm anxious to see when it is, who it is, and for what, GMSH.

You're forgetting the best #17 ever, All-Star center Gilbert Brule.
