Kronwall just signed a extension for 4.75 per. Kronwall is a better defender then Coburn. I wouldnt give Coburn a dime over 4. But I am fearing it will be more then that. This wont stop Holmgren from overpaying Carle either.

Eh, I don't know, I don't want to say anything before I hear what the terms are. Like many in this thread, however, I fear he got "too much".

Rather have a bit over-paid Coburn than Carle at any price.

4 years @ $3.75m is the most he deserves, but he'll probably get overpaid at $4.5m+ cause Homer is dumb sometimes

Carle is not exactly a great powerplay defenseman. In fact, he's terrible.
Neither one of them qualify as good breakout passers, and Carle is absolutely better with the puck at the blueline. Carle has no shot, but Coburn couldn't hit a soccer net with his slapshot so what's the point?

The scale on defensemen's contracts are greater. For that reason, he'll get ~ $4M. If they're trying to re-sign Carle, and I'm Carle's agent, the negotiations begin when the first number is a 5.

Someone brought it up to Carchidi last night. He said he heard they were in talks.

When Coburn finished up his first year in Philadelphia, he was on his way to becoming a star. When he got hit in the face with the puck in the Pittsburgh Eastern Final Series, that was it. It changed him and he's never been the same. He'll never get it back and the Flyers need to stop being patient with Coburn in thinking that he will. He should have been traded elsewhere by now.
Coburn can be frustrating at times, and he hasn't progressed quite the way we'd hoped for when he came over here, but that's a bit harsh. I'd probably prefer Coburn to 8-9 guys on that list.

Yeah, I take Bieksa as well, but he has similar problems to his game that Coburn does. Plus he might be the most nonchalant defender in the entire NHL, except for Gonchar.

Coburn is great when he focuses on a simple, physical game. When he tries to do more than that, he gets in trouble.

Hopefully that's what Carle's looking for because that would all but guarantee he's gone

THANK GOD

I agree with ya here. I would also like to see him jump into the offensive rush a little more though. If i remember correctly thats how he scored a good number of his goals since hes been a Flyer. Let him be the fourth player in on the rush and give him an open shot. Maybe one of our dman could hit the net?????

He's kind of awful offensively. He can get away with it due to his speed, but I don't really care about him on the rush. He got most of his goals that one year on one timers.

I like Coburn..wish he was more consistent with his snarl and physicality but I have no qualms with extending him although I would like it in the mid 3 range or so. Coburn is a good D man..sure he has his downsides but I think he holds his own as a top 4 d-man. Not sure what the alternatives to him are plus I would rather jettison Carle and I think that is what is going to happen. Holmgren wasn't exactly happy with his play in the playoffs and specifically said that people that should have stepped up on D did not and it was clear by Carle's putrid play in the playoffs..he was alluding to him although Coburn wasn't all that great either just not as horrid as Carle. With Carle not stepping it up in Pronger's absence again so far this year...it seems he's not doing much to try and stay on the team IMO...

I think $3.8m per would be a good number, so $4m wouldn't be egregious.
