It isn't entertaining but it's been around for at least 40 years now. It's not like it's a strategy that guarantees you don't lose.

I don't see how you outlaw the trap in a manner which can be easily and constantly applied (and I don't trust on-ice officials to do that). You can however create incentives for teams to attack. A 3-2-1-0 points system instead of the current 2-1-1-0 system might do that.

Boucher and coaches like him, employing a system like that are the problem. Hockey is an entertaining sport, but I would not knowingly buy a ticket to that. If I was a season ticket holder and that's what I was being offered, I'd demand a refund.

The coach and teams importance is to win, not to entertain the crowd. Honestly if that was the case, Martin would have been fired a long time ago and Devils wouldn't have won the cup in 95..

Winning the way you know is best.. > Entertaining the crowd.

I think the fans in Tampa are sufficiently pleased to be out of the NHL's cellar that they'd tolerate some trapping.

You'd be well within your rights to do so. Vote for your dollar.

Sports has a weird juxtaposition. On one hand it's basically a pure entertainment business but the people who coach the game don't keep their jobs if they continually lose games (which might be worse for the business than playing in a boring manner).

As a result you end up with coaches employing strategies that don't provide as much entertainment as other ones would.

If there was an easy way to outlaw the trap I'd happily go along with it. As it is, I don't really see one. I guess the easiest way to do it would be to outlaw coaches, but then teams would probably hire the best qualified trainer-coach they could find to coach the game while wearing the team trainer hat.

With the lack of goals coming from the PP this year, if he employs the trap when we have the man advantage, at least it might cut down on some of the shorthanded goals we are conceeding

I wouldn't have been surprised if Roloson had got 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct - embellishment for that save on Hartnell with a minute left. He made the glove save, added a flinch of the arm then went for the full body twist to finish. Should have been an automatic minor

Hornqvist started the season with 0 goals in 7 games. Since then, he has a 7 games goal streak.

Man, if Martin did what Boucher did, he wouldn't have made it to the locker rooms, especially if he gave the same explanation.

Remember when Roy criticized Boucher for his style in the Q and everybody jumped on his case because of it?? Maybe he wasn't so off.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Do what you feel is best to win the hockey game. If that's what they think is best, so be it. They have a time frame to prove it.

Didn't we see a team do this before? Not for as long as the Flyers did it, but I am pretty sure I saw this before. Maybe in the Q?

about the Bolts/Flyers game, on cyberpresse...

Aucunement pressés par les joueurs du Lightning, ceux des Flyers ont conservé possession de la rondelle en zone défensive sans bouger ou presque. La foule au St. Pete Forum s'est mise à huer.

About the Flyers-Bolts thing, here's our post on it:
http://7thplayer.com/slowing-things-down

What a bizarre situation.

I'm of the opinion that team carrying the puck shouldve received a delay of game call.
