If you don't suspend a guy because he doesn't have a history of a previous suspension... then he'll never get a suspension.

It wasn't anything horrible and won't be looked at, but it is odd he'd get another boarding call.

It's not so much a history of suspension as a history of disciplinary action. A fine is disciplinary action.

He cross checked someone into the boards from behind in the Kings/Oilers game on Thursday too. Although, he got a cross checking penalty and not a boarding call for that one. So this is the third game in a row where he's done something like this.

$2500 more than Steckle got for knocking Crosby out for the year with his headshot.

Makes you wonder does the NHL look at things like that. I mean in the odd chance Moreau does in fact pick up another boarding call tomorrow or Thursday, even if the last two weren't as bad as the first, do you make a mental note about that?

I'd like to think so, but I really don't know. I'm not sure what standards Shanahan has, if I recall correctly, a player that was fined previously wasn't considered a repeat offender under Campbell.

I guess Shanahan has gotten so much flak from the NHL's good old boys network that he is now dialing back his suspensions. In other words, the same thing that happened to all previous stricter rule enforcement plans.

DGB said it best.

Quote:
Bettman: The only problem so far is the decorations. I bought a ton, and you were supposed to hang them all up.

Shanahan: What? You never asked me to hang anything.

Bettman: Sure I did. Two months ago, I sent you a memo. It said "Brendan, effectively immediately, start suspending everything you see".

Shanahan: Um… that memo was about Halloween decorations?

Bettman: Of course. Why, what did you think it was about?

Shanahan (under his breath): Oh man.

Proof this punishment was a ****ing joke: He turned around and did the exact same thing to another player last night.

Complete HS. This is exactly the type of play the NHL needs out of the league. I don't even see how its even questionable.

Good ol NHL makes another rule just to turn it into a question mark.

I really hope that's not the case. I actually liked the fact Shanahan was going heavy on the suspensions at the beginning of the season. If he turns into Colin Campbell - Part II, then what's the point?

$2500 is a pitiful fine. Should be $25000 at least. Need to change that in the CBA at least.

So players can only be fined $2500 max? But Dan Bylsma can get fined $10,000 because Godard left the bench to protect BJ?

Odd.
