They were definitely late there, imo. They usually break things up much sooner, especially with the difference in size (even if Downie is an experienced fighter).

The TSN analysts said as much, too. I thought Coburn was going to go down early in that fight, but then he got his big wingspan going and was smacking Downie at will.

Funny line of the night! The Flyers could have accomplished the same for most of the game in broomball shoes. They probably wouldn't have fallen over as much, too!

When it comes to high profile, Briere and JVR come to mind. Tonight would have been the perfect night for JVR to pretend he's playing in the Boston series.

Tough loss tonight. I kept thinking I was watching the Maple Leafs. I hate those damn blue jerseys.

Flyers had 14 shots through regulation. When you're sitting on the puck, some guys aren't going to be visible.

It is a valid point.

Pronger went off with some post-game comments regarding the content of the play.

I wish the Flyers would have won tonight...they could make Tampa Bay blue colored shirts and wear them before the rest of their games that say "I survived the 1-3-1!!!!" and on the back it has the date 11/9/11.

Sam @ The Inq. has a post-game column w/quotes:

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inqflyersreport/

Quote:
TAMPA _ Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger, back in the lineup after missing six games because of an eye injury, called Tampa Bay’s defensive style “embarrassing'' after the Lightning’s 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday.

"It's not hockey in my book,'' Pronger fumed. "But whatever. The league is letting them do it. Would you pay money to watch that?''

The Lightning trapped and the Flyers stalled in their own zone for most of the first period.

It was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

But the bottom line was this: The Flyers, coming off a 9-2 romp over Columbus, never got their offense untracked.

Six. Four. Four. One.

Those were the shots on goal the Flyers had in each period Wednesday, including the overtime.

Playing against the Lightning’s annoying-but-effective trap, the Flyers managed just 15 shots in the 62 minutes and 30 seconds. Only 10 of the shots came in even-strength situations.

Ten.

Thanks! He is right. Wonder if the league will respond to this?

But standing around not playing offense isn't hockey either both teams should be embarrassed

It could be something discussed at future meetings, GMs and perhaps BoGs. The NHL has issued internal in-season memos regarding policy and extended to style of play in the recent past but whether that happens here is anyone's guess.

I would love to see the Flyers not doing a whole lot.

What the hell is St. Louis doing? Even if you're going to play one forchecker, at least force the issue.

Bryz can do better than putting a 50/50 puck on Meszaros to avoid losing the game, especially on what looked like such a harmless shot from Moore. He could have pushed the puck into the corner or swiped it harder through the crease. It was a cheesy rebound.

I actually completely forgot he existed. That's pretty invisible.

Read as usual looked good...when he wasn't flubbing on some prime scoring chances. I think I saw that happen twice.

You and I have the same take. I place the blame on both of them more or less equally. The defense did fail, but a goalie of Bryz's caliber is supposed to be capable of bailing out the D there.

can't find the shots during PP's but this could greatly improve if they want to score goals.
