I have always been rooting for Plante. Not sure he will ever become a regular in Edmonton (not likely) but he is exactly what OKC needs. He is their most physical defenceman and becoming a leader down there.
Agreed, his foot speed however does not translate well to the NHL game. Good depth guy for the farm.
OKC can certainly use another quality AHL defenseman. Right now that is the club's weak spot; one more callup would put the team in a pretty tough spot. Chorney played well for the Barons, I don't see any particular reason not to bring him back.
I would be fine of they claimed him or not for OKC. He was my favorite D man last season, rock steady at the AHL level I think. An OKC D corps of
Helmer/Lowery
Plante/Chorney
Teubert/Montgomery
Would be pretty stout I think, as we are anticipating Tubes to be sent down when EDM is healthy right? However, guys like Tulupov and Motin have played well this season and have earned their time so I would hate to bring Chorney in and see those players as the H.S., released, or sent down because of it.

Teubert and Monty are great together, and Helmer provides Lowery with experience for the young guy. Don't worry about what's considered first pairing because down here they all get pretty even time.
Oilers dmen are injury prone... see Whitney, Smid, Barker, Chorney, Teubert, Fedun just this season so far for proof. Sutton is out on suspension and another isn't out of the question either to him or Peckham or another dman on a hit.
The Oilers have actually had to find extra bodies for their dman squad in OKC since the season began (which is why Montgomery was signed and Dan Ringwald as well).
I could see the Oilers picking Chorney back up just to have another "tweener" body in the system... one that can play full time solid hockey at the AHL level and sub in for injuries on the big team.
Honestly right now with Teubert up with the big team there really isn't a single dman in OKC that has a shot at being an NHL player... at least Chorney has some potential to be a 6th/7th dman.
Should they pick him up? I could definitely see them doing it for dman depth which they still could use more of.
From the CBA:
13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular, Re-Entry or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently, in the same season it requestsWaivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative) and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful claim.
my interpretation is that Chorney can be assigned to the AHL as he has not played 10 NHL games since he was claimed by St. Louis.

Yes he can be so as long as no other team put a claim in for him. If another team did put a claim in for him and the Oilers assign him to the Barons he would then be awarded to said team.
