Pure speculation and hersey past this point.

It's pretty clear that Howson is trying to shake up the team. Perhaps he had another trade lined up that would have moved Mason. My guess is that this hypothetical Mason trade fell through, causing Howson to scuttle the Nabokov trade.

And I seriously doubt that it would be Nabokov for Tyutin, straight up.
