Two great forward duos (Pacioretty-Plekanec & Eller-Kostitsyn), two great all around D, and a top goalie.

Wanted to put Gorges but leaving Markov out- even if questionable health wise, seemed too wrong.

1. Price or Subban
2. PK Subban or Price
3. Gorges (4-5 year contract...please)
4. Plekanec
5. Pacioretty
6. Eller
7. Cammalleri (I can't stand Cammalleri in the regular season and in interviews, but...he's a playoff sniper and IF he gets traded...he has a lot of value, imo).

Surprised that some Hab fans are dropping Subban a little...
We're nothing without Subban (huge playoff hero...huge).
We're also nothing without Gorges (huge playoff hero...huge ****ing heart).

I don't criticize management often, but...still don't know why they only gave Gorges a measly 1 year contract this summer (what the ****). We better find a %^&*#$ way to sign him to a long contract. He's done so much more than Markov has for our Habs in the last 3 seasons and yet Gorges could be UFA this summer. It better not happen. Now we have to overpay compared to last summer (still have to do it since it's Gorges). Sign Gorges now.

Mathematically, we're asked to protect the top 30% (7/23). The lists are fairly similar and most posters include Gorges. I'd probably not put follow suit despite his service to the team. If he belongs there it implies that the Habs are very shallow in talent.

I think it's more nobody wants to keep our older veterans and their big contracts. If Cole was younger and paid less I'd rather him than Gorges. Also if Kostitsyn was signed longer and 100% committed to the team I'd keep him. Gorges is a warrior but he isn't irreplaceable. He is however worth protecting if you are afraid Markov won't hold up injury-free or don't care much for our top 6 and their massive contracts. Plus we have a pretty good young core that is actually improving at a solid pace. If only something like this actually happened. Ridding ourselves of Gomez/Spacek/Gionta/Gill would really help this team starting next year. As long as we didn't just go right out and overpay for a Ryan Smyth or a Rozsival.

I disagree.

Ideally, if I was running the team, Josh Gorges would be the captain. That's not a knock on Gionta. It's just praise for Gorges. The guy leads by example, you can tell he's a natural born leader, and he backs it up on the ice. Sure he's not a #1 defenseman, but you'd be hard pressed to find me 5 guys better in the NHL than Gorges at what he does. He's the perfect complimentary player in the Top-4 and with his leadership, I'm a huge fan.

I've been on the Gorges bandwagon since we first got him. When people we're saying he'd not be more than a #7 guy, I kept my faith and he's turned into a defenseman much better than even I expected. He's, simply put, the best in the world at what he does. Yes, I stole that from Chris Jericho / CM Punk.

I keep Josh Gorges because he's exactly what I want the Montreal Canadiens to be. Gritty. Feisty. Strong. Agile. And most importantly... Heart.

3. Pacioretty
4. Eller
5. Gorges
6. Markov (if he can stay healthy)
7. Plekanec
7b. Cammalleri (if Markov doesn't stay healthy)

HM: Weber (I think he can become a solid 2nd pairing guy who puts up 35-40 pts a year on a PP), Cole (I just love his style of play, but he is up there in age).

The only prospect I wouldn't move unless the return is huge is Beaulieu.

And seriously, can we just lock up Gorges for 5-6 years already? This guy has proven he is Top-4 material and a go-to guy for this team. Enough *** around and lock him up!

Markov-Subban
Gorges-Weber

my top 4 in one month's time.

Probably in that order too. Reason Markov is last is because due to injuries he's a "?". With more offensive coaching and stable lines imo Cammy can go back to being a 40-40 type guy.

And that list is assuming guys like Beaulieu and Tinordi are automatically untouchable too just being prospects. If they aren't then I'd have to do some serious thinking.

HM: I love Eller and would probably consider taking him over Markov. It really depends on how Markov is when he comes back.
