Drew Stafford... unleashed!

The Good

- Stafford flying out there.
- Roy continues to produce.
- Leino gets one and continues to be a productive member of that line. Volley puck!
- Adam getting on the board. And winning 6 of 11 draws? Bonus
- Matty Ellis with a goal?
- Enroth when he needed to be.
- Myers with no gaffs and some generally solid D-zone play? Color it good.
- Ehrhoff and Gragnani with the easiest +3 each in a while.
- Balanced icetime. It almost looked like Ruff was saving Gerbe-Gaustad-Boyes for tomorrow night (should be Kaleta's first game back from stupidity).
- That Vanek found a way to get onto the scoresheet in a game where a lot of what he did tonight was wide/high/bouncing/off.
- Gaustad with ownership at the dot tonight: 13 of 17.

The Bad

- Hard to criticize a 5-1 win... but some of their softness on the puck in their own zone nearly bit them plenty.
- I didn't care for no one going after Konopka after he put Gragnani into Enroth. Especially when the score got to 4-1 or later.

The Ugly

- Konopka's got a mugg only his mother could love.

Vanek wasn't that great tonight, but he made up for his penalty.

His name is Zenon Konopka. I don't think it's out of bounds to question parental love.

He is a smallish guy, bowling ball like but a huge heart. Not much talent but I would take him in a heart beat.

There's not much to complain about with this game. I thought in the third period they were especially strong, and I like how they decided to try to put the game away instead of going into shell mode.

Defensive play was excellent. The only goal against was on a 5-3 (for all practical purposes).

Roy, Stafford, and Boyes especially stood out to me. Leino had a very good game too.

10-5 over the first 15? I'll take that in a heartbeat.

Leino/Roy/Stafford have been playing great the last few games. Along with Vanek/Adam/Pommer we have a very nice 1-2 punch thats complimented well by our 3rd line Gerbe/Goose/Boyes.

Ennis is going to have a hell of a time cracking the top 9.

Does Kaleta get his spot back? I've really like Boyes on that line.

It was meant with love.

Nice to have this sort of goaltending from their backup. It's been so damn long and now Ruff can play either guy against teams they've had better success against? Sign me up.

Another good:

- Regehr-Leopold bounced back from the Jets game, RR with 3 hits and 3 blocked shots, Leo with the goal, another near miss. Pretty solid all-around.
- Sekera-Myers cleaned it up in their own zone. No giveaways, no stupid pinches, no mental mistakes in their own zone.

As for Stafford, I bought a Sabre team Upper Deck set at a home game back in 07-08; the set is loaded with rookie Stafford, Vanek, Roy, Poms, Miller, Campbell and Afinogenov!

It was a golden buy...

Ennis and Hecht can take their time getting healthy.

I think Boyes has done enough to deserve the ToI on that line. He's been pumping along even before drawing that assignment, continues to move his legs, get involved and look to shoot first. He gives that line a bit more scoring bite. And if he slacks for a moment, feel free to slap Kaleta back in there.

On a statistical basis - Ehrhoff did some digging out of his +/- hole (for whatever it's worth)....+3 tonight with an assist.

Could always go with the uber-disturber line:

Tropp-McCormick-Kaleta

EDIT: missed that you filled the line with a healthy Ennis....LOL...I read it as Ellis....

Well Lindy just squashed that idea...

Said Tropp is going back down.... Kaleta back in line up.

Sabres have now defeated Ottawa in 6 straight.

Seems so strange, since it still seems so recently that we never beat those guys.

The second unit had some really great puck control and movement while the first unit was doing a lot of standing still -- was going over it with my son to show him how much easier it is to defend the standing still guys. When the top unit moves, they're so much better.

Zzz.... I think Tropp is better than Kaleta. He can actually play in the offensive zone. I hope they keep Boyes with Gerbe and Goose, he is fitting in very well with them. Gives us a good 3rd line. Powerplay wasn't great, but the 1st unit was pretty good, 2nd is downright awful.

How about that Enroth kid?

i was thinking about that tonight, as well. i used to hate the senators, but now that the sabres have been dominating the series a lot of the angst has worn off.
