Can we compete for the Cup

Straight out question. Can we compete for the cup THIS YEAR. I'm not looking for any of this "in a few years" crap. Nobody can predict what happens in a few years. Obviously, any team that makes the playoffs can technically compete, but will we compete competitively?

Personally, going by the way we're playing, I honestly believe that we are good enough to go all the way already

Can we? Yes. Will we? Who knows? An injury to Hank. Gabby, McDonagh, and we are toast. Looks like Pittsburgh and Boston will be the teams to beat in the east. It is not the weak conference it used to be anymore.

guess i wasn't supposed to click the "in a few years" option

there are alotta "ifs" about it this year. i like this team a bit better with a few new faces on it, though. Kreider, perhaps Hagelin... so i went with "in a few years"

don't kill me, nils!

If Staal returns we can come close. Still think we need 1 more top 6 forward to really have a shot...but if Hank stands on his head there's always a chance.

If the Bruins could last year, we could this year (especially if Staal comes back)

Complete teams usually win the Cup..... Do the Rangers have a glaring weakness? No

So I answered yes.

Still need another scoring left winger. And Staal back and healthy.

Depends if we win the next game or not. If we win then absolutely. If we lose then we should consider being sellers and rebuild.

Why the hell not? We've seen much worse teams make the Finals, and the talent is here to be as good as we want to be. All it takes is a hot streak and good goaltending.

Trade Lundqvist and Fire Torts.

Anyone else remember the Fire Torts/Torts should win the coach of the year? Bipolarness at its finest.

Last night's game was very similar to the Vancouver one. Until the 3rd we had no business winning.

This team still has a long way to go to be where we want to, IMO. They weren't great against Ottawa or Carolina.

I have been saying it since the summer and got mocked a bit for it, but I think this team could win it all this year.

We're not even 20 games into the season and we're talking about competing for the Cup?

This is the most bi-polar board, ever.

Wait until we lose 2-3 in a row and the "Tire Torts" starts all over again.

This is insanely premature.

Can this team comepete for the Cup? Certainly. Can they win the Cup as currently constituted. Not Likely.

IMO, this is one of the five best teams in the Eastern conference, (along with the Pens, Caps, Bruins and Sabres.) They have the mentality that wins playoff games, which is a willingness to grind games out, and play the ugly, dirty game similar to what the Bruins did last year. They've added Richards, are seeing further offensive development from Stepan and AA, and have McDonagh, Girardi and, to lesser extent, MDZ taking their games to new levels. Plus, their best offensive talent is playing like the elite player he was two years ago. But, they dearly need Staal back at some point, and likely need one more scoring forward to put them over the hump.

Competing... not winning.

Obviously a ton of things can and will happen between now and the playoffs.

I look at it this way, are the Rangers a better team than last year? If you answer yes, and last year was good enough to make the playoffs, then hopefully this years will go that much further.

Anything can happen when you're in the playoffs, but most likely not yet...

No...what you have are the optimists and the pessimists. It's not usually the same people going back and forth. Rather, each faction becomes louder when the team resembles it's particular POV. BB and Jonathan have been fairly confident that this is a good. (A belief that I share.) There are others who happen to be silent at the moment, that early stated that this is a bad team.
