Others argue that regardless of that goalies always need to be protected.

That said I agree that someone on the sabres needs to step up to Boston and Lucic because they will be physically dominated in playoffs which is the bruins game.
Asking whether it'd be a penalty if Miller was a defenseman is meaningless. He isn't a defenseman. The rules are different. According to the rulebook, the hit was completely illegal BECAUSE Miller is a goalie.

I think Stafford should have pushed Lucic. It worked very well against the Canes. Why did Lucic even try to run into Miller? Did he not hear about the push by Stafford in October?

I hope Lucic is suspend 7 games for this. Completely unnecessary, intentional, and gutless. Since the team can't stand up for themselves, the only hope is that the law dispenses justice accordingly.

They have a banner in the rafters to show that style worked rather nicely for them.

I'd like one of those.

Agreed. It was a body check. No big deal. Shook the game up. Sabres couldn't respond.

If by bodycheck you mean headshot, sure. I hope Lucic enjoys his Shana-ban. Even if it was just a bodycheck, it'd still be illegal.

Other then the fact that you can not check the goalie.

I hihgly doubt that the Shanahammer lands on Lucic for this incident.

Bigger question: With the lack of retaliation (again), where would you be mentally if you were Miller and you just got hurt for a second time on a dirty play and your team did absolutely nothing about it? I remember a couple years ago when Ovie went barrelling into Miller and Miller was the only one who even pushed him. I'd be livid.

Then that would just endorse the "...oops, sorta plowed over the goalie...unintentionally, yeah! unintentionally" strategy. Good god, this isn't Slapshot or NHL Hitz 2002...

I sure hope he gets suspended.

He got the penalty he deserved. I don't consider it dirty.

Outrage over that hit is sour grapes. The frustration should be directed toward the fact that the team cowered.

At that time in the game id be fine with it. If this happened down 6 to 2 it would be different.

Honestly?

I'd be talking with the HC and management about trying to move me to another team.

It should be an absolute embarrassment to every player in that locker room that they did nothing in support of Ryan Miller.

NOTHING.

..for the retaliation argument. I did think that Buffalo's players had all been on the ice for a good 45+ seconds before that collision.

Not making excuses; they still should have done something. But it is rather hard to do something on tired legs.

How can that hit NOT be considered dirty? He had plenty of time to pull up, since he knew he had lost the race to the puck. Instead, he brought the shoulder and stick up, and hit Miller high. Intent to deliver a hard and ILLEGAL hit was obvious. That is just about the definition of a "dirty" hit.

If I were Miller I would rather them score on the power play, Right when the fans were singing his name.

True, it was a shoulder hit, but only because Miller saw him coming at the last moment. It was still an unnecessary, high, and illegal hit.

Oh, and go back to your board please.

this is how you have to respond when your goalie gets hit.

Hasek even takes a flop here, but look at Darryl Shannon at the :05 mark. There is no hesitation. He drops the gloves and is going to make Odjick pay for taking a run at Hasek. Christ even Smehlik who is one of the biggest sissies of all time did more in this video then anyone did tonight. Penalties be damned, you have to send a message to the rest of the league that you are not gonna tolerate this crap or it's going to keep happening.
