I believe the thread was suggestions for minimum GDT requirements, not necessarily rules. And this is a new season, so I tend to think that juju is reset. If this one brings about bad juju then the next pre-gameday GDT will be rightfully vilified.
Sometimes you just gotta mix things up. Besides, it was technically game day somewhere...one extra minute and it wouldn't have been.
Alright, guys...THIS game I want the Preds to get TWO points. Preferably in regulation. I'll be watching you from very very close (thanks to Predfan98) and I want to see GOOD THINGS.
Im a little worried about your math skils there teach.... the GDT was started two days early... but I am down with it... we will see how it goes... if we win... new tradition... if we lose... we have a scapegoat
Two points in OT is fine with me since it's an out of conference team, but the boys do have a busy week with three games in five days so I guess every extra bit of rest helps. Washington is a very tough team. Perhaps tougher this year than they have been since the lock out... maybe ever. To whoever asked if we would pay $2.6m for Joel Ward, I highly doubt it. SK got $2.5m after leading the team in goals. Joel Ward got overpaid for having a good couple of rounds in the play offs. Now, an overpayment couldn't have happened to a better guy, but it's still an overpayment. Even at $2.6m.
Washington's offense is scary as usual. Their PP is also moving right along at a pretty good clip. Discipline is going to be key. Not just staying out of penalty trouble, but making sure everyone sticks to their game. If the opportunities present themselves absolutely take the chance to get behind their D (just don't get sucked into a back-and-forth game). They have been letting in a lot of goals lately (26 in their last 7 games, actually), but they still have the ability to shut down a team... especially a team like ours that isn't exactly the highest of high flying offenses. I trust Trotz with the last change. He should be able to exploit the Caps as much as possible. Both teams have been rested since Saturday. Here's hoping that our team comes out fresh and their team comes out a big off balance.
If this one comes down to goaltending and coaching I like our chances. If it comes down to a run-and-gun we are dead.
1) Discipline in all areas of the game
2) Control the play. Puck possession is going to be huge. Don't get cute with long passes or trying to swing for the fences rather than simply chipping the puck out.
3) Pekka GD Rinne
Forward David Legwand (upper body) will not play tonight, and Trotz will likely move rookie sensation Craig Smith into his spot once again. The coaching staff may try some other options on other lines as well.
“I’ve never played against these guys before,” Blum said. “It will be pretty interesting. Ovechkin is the best player in the world, so to step on the same ice with him is pretty cool. They have a lot of great players. But on this team, we have two of the best defensemen in the league with (Shea) Weber and (Ryan) Suter.”
“You just have to check well,” Predators coach Barry Trotz said. “You have to check without the puck. You have to be really good one-on-one. You don’t want to give them time and space, entering the blue line and start coming laterally on you and finding secondary waves. You can’t turn it over in the neutral zone. They are a quick counter team.”
