Update from today's practice:

Quote:
Jochen Hecht skated after the team's workout shortly on Monday. Ruff said the forward is symptom free and will "start ramping it up again." There was no timetable placed on a possible return for Hecht.
Quote:
He also said Tyler Ennis would test his injured ankle this week. The forward will hopefully skate tomorrow or Wednesday. That is the next step in his return to the ice

Sounds good. I'm not too convinced Jochen is any better yet, though.

Word from WGR is that ennis skated.

Tyler Ennis is finally back on the ice, but not with the team. He’s rehabbing a high ankle sprain. Ruff said, “Ennis skated today with Jochen. They both skated for about 30 minutes. In Tyler’s case, no agility stuff just lap skating.”

There’s no timetable for either one's return.

I was at practice today and Ennis was on the ice by himself doing a lot of skating/shooting and really looked good. He was flying at a few points, and I had to remind myself he was still technically hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if he was bad in a week or two, but I'm no doctor and I'm not him so I don't know how it feels. He looks terrific out there though.

Any chance these guys do a conditioning stint in Rochester? Loads of teams seem to do this, but I don't recall us ever doing it.

We did it with Noronen during the 3-headed monster season. Also with Lalime in 09-10.

According to TBN, Miller has a concussion.

Some interesting thoughts form Kevin O:

That #Sabres say G Ryan Miller has a concussion is VERY interesting. Are they forcing #NHL to issue a forceful suspension on $Bruins Lucic?

Usually #Sabres, and all teams, say "upper body," even if everyone knows it's a concussion. Now they come right out and say it on Miller.

From TBN's blog:

Quote:
Update: Sabres spokesman Mike Gilbert clarified the original information he provided, saying teams do not request supplementary discipline reviews any longer and that the Sabres are simply awaiting to hear from the league any verdict on Lucic
I'm sure that the formality of Miller's condition via a bulletin by the team's GM was intended to make sure Shanahan heard about the incident and looks at it. Lucic claims he "braced himself" and "put his head down" but the video shows otherwise - he went from a crouched position while skating after the puck but upon approaching Miller, stood up and lifted his shoulder into Miller's head to send him flying.

Based on some of the suspensions that Shanahan has already doled out that were debatable yet intended, in his words, to send a pre-emptive message, I think he'll look seriously at this. If he does something, though, I think it won't be more than 2 games - the mitigating factor would likely be that Miller came rushing towards Lucic as much as Lucic did towards him. If he were stationed inside the crease and Lucic charged at him, it'd be a different story.

Miller out indefinitely. Hope it's not long term.

Ask Toronto how concussions for goalies go...last year, Miller's injury was thought to be only a week, then it became two weeks...

If he had a concussion how the hell did he get back in the game? In a time in hockey where they are trying to cut back on concussions and treat them much more serious there is no reason he should have stayed in and played the 1st and 2nd periods.

Concussions don't always have immediate physical symptoms. He obviously felt good enough to stay in after the hit. The probably kept him out after the period ended for precautionary measures.

He finished the game he played that he got the concussion in last year.

It happens, Like Marc Staal last year.. he played through the play offs with a concussion and look at him now? He's not playing and hasnt been allowed to practice.. And what about Sid? He obviously got his concussion from Steckels hit than played next game and got a rather weak hit by Hedman and has been out since.

Via WGR, Hecht cleared for contact. Obviously a step in the right direction for him.

Good. I would still suggest he not play on November 23, 2011.

Is this the first time he has been cleared for contact? Im trying to remember if he was cleared right before he had the setback a week or so ago.

Interesting blurb in TBN's online chat today about Hecht:

Quote:
3:49 [Comment From ericeric: ]
One of the things that became really noticeable last year as the season went on was that the Sabres were really good along the boards in terms of emerging with the puck. Hecht in particular seemed underrated in this....he has this move where he swivels his body, would deflect the hit, and out the other side with the puck. The team doesn't seem quite as good at puck retrieval this year as last, but they're still above average. Do they work on drills for this sort of thing?

3:50 John Vogl: Hecht is the best puck-possession guy on the team. They do "bull in the ring drills" where a guy has a puck in the faceoff circle and the other guy has to either steal the puck or push the guy out of the circle
