Most complete team in the East?

Scoring depth up front?
-Gaborik, Richards, Stepan, Anisimov, Callahan, Dubinsky
check.

Solid, consistent defense?
-no.1 in GAA, given up 2 goals or less in 10 of 15, unchanged defensive core ad system
check.

World class goaltending?
-Henrik and Marty
check.

I would say that the Rangers are right up there with the Bruins and Penguins as the most well-rounded team in the East. There are really no glaring weaknesses in the lineup. The 4th line leaves a lot to be desired, but at 6-7 mins a game it really has little effect.

I don't foresee any extended losing streaks for a team as well-constructed as this one.

(the optimism is not based on the winning streak... but based on they are playing like and winning like the team I thought they would be. The last six games are what I thought 2011-12 Rangers wins would be)

Pittsburgh when Crosby is healthy. No debate, IMO.

Aside from them, Washington.

The Rangers do have a team that is rich with depth, though. When Staal comes back, the defense is probably one of the best in the NHL. Lundqvist is Lundqvist, and an offense with Stepan, Anisimov, Richards, Gaborik, Callahan, and Dubinsky leading the way can be rather formidable. Just a matter of keeping consistency. We've seen what this team can do when they're on their game.

Fully healthy Pittsburgh, absolutely. W/O Crosby, perhaps. W/O Crosby AND Michalek, debatable. Their defence is starting to show cracks.

Yes. While their forwards are widely acclaimed, I'm blown away by their D corps. Their 3rd pairing would be the 1st on some of the teams in this league.

Yes. I have no idea what happened at the start of the season, but with Seguin breaking out they now have crazy depth AND game breaking talent.

Would many of you agree that the Rangers are top 5 in this category in the East?

Pitt, Wash, Philly, Boston then Buff, Rangers. Those teams should all make the playoffs but how you rank them is entirely up to you.

Don't see how Philly/Boston are decidedly ahead of the Rangers. They're even, if anything.

Boston won a cup 16 games ago, same team for most part. Have to respect them.

Philly young fast tough team to play, certainly top of league not a fringe playoff squad.

Nay. BUT, as long as we continue to score (and we begin to get production from guys who gave it to us last year) and the PP begins to work, we are one serious team to face.

However, we need to temper our excitement during this streak, just as we needed to temper it earlier in the season. Before the season I though we had a serious, cup-contending team. As we've seen so far, you just never know.

I do think we have the potential for good GF numbers--Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, and Stepan, and then a solid supporting cast of Dubinsky, Anisimov, Prust, Boyle, Avery and DZ. Plus what has so far been near-elite defense. And, of course, Lundqvist and Biron, which I think is the best tandem in the league.

While we can never know, I like our chances to finish as a 4th-or-above seed.

Definitely not the most complete team, but I would say top 5 for sure. Washington, Pittsburgh and Boston all have more complete rosters. I would place the Rangers at 4, just ahead of Philly.

Rangers bottom 6 doesn't compare to some of the other good teams in the East. You need that 3rd line that has players who can be effective on the 3rd line and play in the top-6 for short stints and not kill the top-6 offense. Right now, the Rangers don't have anyone like that.

Don't know how this conversation doesn't begin and end with the Pens...given their start to the season without Crosby and Malkin for some games...as much as it pains me to say it the nod has to go to the Pens

Am I the only one who's annoyed by these illusory winning streak posts almost as much as the suicidal losing streak ones?

A team is never as good as it looks when it's winning, nor as bad as it looks when it's losing. Never mind the fact that we haven't yet played even a single game against a legitimate contender from the East.

Washington for sure.

After that, may depend upon which team has better game that night, i.e., no consistent by Rangers over Pens or vice versa for example. We match up well vs. Bs but I wouldn't brag about it.

We still do not have enough depth, scoring.

Once Crosby is back it will be the Pens.

Then, for me, it's the Bruins.

NY has a #1 Center, Pittsburgh has a #1 center, though Pittsburgh's is better.
NY has a #1 Goalie, Pittsburgh has a #1 Goalie, though NY's is better.
NY has a solid top6 forward, top4 defense, solid checking line, as does Pittsburgh. In a best of season, both teams are excellent.

The difference between them is the Rangers don't have an elite #1 defenseman to run the play like Kris Letang and that prevents them from being the most complete team in the East.

Substitute Pittsburgh for Philly and Pronger, Washington and Green, the outcome is the same. We've been behind in this area since 2003.

Don't see how Boston is considered the most complete team in the East when they don't even have a #1 Center. Although Seguin may make me eat my words.

I agree with Washington being a well rounded team. However, they have a bit of "all-star syndrome" in my opinion. I feel like they are mentally weak and can't handle diversity. Something this Rangers team can do, as well as Pittsburgh.

Taking into account our core players, our record so far, and the prospect depth that we have built (right up there with the Panthers and Isles for best in the East IMHO), I'd say that we're in the top tier with Boston, Washington, and Pitt. Barring any serious setbacks, I'd say that we have the potential to finish top 4 in the conference for the next 2-3 years.

We'd be the most complete team if we added scoring (Parise) and speed (Kreider, Hagelin). Until then, we are a nice team on a hot run, but not contenders.

What we are right now is dangerous.

If the playoffs started today, we would be the team that the 1-4 seeds do NOT want to play. ( I know, I know we are technically the 4-seed right now. )

In my mind, that means we are just short of "contender" for EC champs.

Most complete team? nah

not quite there yet. 15 games is still way to early for anything in my opinion. id like to see where we are in december and january when our schedule is a little bit tougher. although i am feeling very good about the boys right now, just trying to envision what we would look like with staal in the lineup
