"nay-eh" or "nay-eel" i believe is how it is traditionally pronounced, but he is adopting the americanized "nail" as he recently said his name like that in an interview i watched recently on the mains.

Todd Marchant had a 60 point season once. Then an idiot named Doug MacLean made the foolish assumption you both want to--that it meant he was a first or second line center.

The fact is that Vermette is a nearly 30 year old player who is not getting any better.

And, let's not sugar coat that trade from the Ottawa side--they got an oft-injured goalie, not a Cory Schneider-type, before someone starts thinking it.

On topic...luck is not needed. All this team needs to do is keep playing the way it is and they are top-2 guaranteed. We'll need more than just Nail though. Our bigger problems are from the goalie out. I'd like to see the next GM add a second, mid-late first round pick that can be used on a stay-at-home defenseman type.

The Next One? Do we have a chance?

Maybe it's time to start following this guy! Three things to be concerned about though. One he's Russian, we all know our luck with Russians. Two, his size, only 175 lbs. Three, even if we finish with the worst record in the league, we will probably still lose the lottery......sigh!

my only real question at this point...

I've read he's not on crosby/malkin/stamkos level...how far behind is he? if he's not one of those talents, then I'd rather go with Murray to step in on Def right away

Since he is playing in the CHL and not the Russian system I'd say don't compare him to Zherdev or Filatov.. he will go high.

1st overall - Yakupov if he continues his pace and has good interviews.
2nd - take Murray or a similar quality defenseman.

I just hope that we finish with the worst record so that we are guaranteed #2 at worst. This season is over, this team doesn't have the goaltending nor the defense to make it back into the playoff race, so here's to cheering the team losses enough and Johansen tears it up enough that he is the new building block for the offense.

The only thing I have to look forward to is Nail Yakupov. Going into full tank mode until Arniel, Howson, and Priest are fired.

Columbus resident, Edmonton fan, Hitchcock should have never been fired.

CBJ just keeps making the wrong move, over and over and over. Hope you guys finish last, get Nail in here and get things turned around. Nash needs dealt too. He never seems to deliver on all that promise, he's just a solid player, not worthy of the contract of an elite player in the NHL.

CBJ needs an absolutely clean rebuild and overhaul.

This.

And I would love to see them trade Nash for a top net minder.

easier to get a capable goalie than a top shelf defender

if they move him, they had better use nash or nash+ to get a top defender.

Goalies aren't worth anywhere close to this much. One of the side effects of the goaltending revolution has been that there are a lot more NHL-caliber goalies than there are actual roster spots for them, there are AHL-caliber goalies in the ECHL and lower, and so on.

That's why the Varlamov trade was such a shocker. It wasn't because he was moved for draft picks, but that the price to get him was staggering.

This.

Yakupov's floor, realistically, is a smaller Dany Heatly. His ceiling is Ovieish. Having the #1 overall pick and not drafting Yakupov is like punting on first and goal.

Garth Snow is looking to trade Nabakov.. talk to him.

I like your team and have been a huge Rick Nash fan.. It would kill me if one day he signs with the Rangers (which probably will happen later in his career)

Johansen is great. He played with Nino in Portland

I feel that both our organizations are poorly run but at least you guys have a competent owner. We can fire the coach, hell even fire the GM once every 15 years and it still wont make a difference.

See For Yourself the Elite Skill of Nail Yakupov [Highlight Reel Video]

Since the Blue Jackets look to finish last in the league this year, it might be a good idea to see what options are available in the draft. Without question, the best option is the unanimous first-overall choice, Nail Yakupov. This kid is the next great NHL superstar and the Jackets would be very lucky to have him.

He has been compared to Alex Ovechkin and even Pavel Bure; he forechecks hard, drives to the net, has wicked vision and puck sense, a deadly slap shot, a quick wristshot, and deadly speed, acceleration and agility. He is such a skilled player, and is the player any team can build around.

Imagine him with Rick Nash and Jeff Carter...

It's surprising that not many people have seen him play, or that there isn't very much footage of him online. He is a human highlight reel. Anybody who doesn't have access to the OHL will not have been able to watch him thus far, so I decided to put together a 10-minute highlight reel of his goals, assists and plays with the Sarnia Sting from both last year and this year, so that everybody can find out who he is and what he's all about.

I have also incorporated an interview done with him by TV Cogeco that showcases his personality and how he has adapted to life in Canada -- no music, just raw footage (with commentary) taken from TV Cogeco's game archive. He seems like a humble kid with a very close relationship to his family. His bond with the Galchenyuks and Igor Larionov is pretty strong too.

The video also features some of Alex Galchenyuk's plays to prove that he's no slouch either. In fact, the two work with each other so well, I'd argue the two are like Bure and Mogilny. These two are going to be NHL superstars in the future. Get to know a bit more about their game from the video below. It's exciting stuff, so please enjoy.

And for a moment, picture him in a Blue Jackets uniform. It's very close to becoming a reality. Exciting to think, isn't it?

*see it in full screen on YouTube. There are some 16:9 clips, which fool the embedding system into thinking the entire clip is in 16:9 format.

He's a Russian who we would get with the first round pick. That always works out well for us, too.

To hell with the draft. I'll live in the present, thank you very much.

If it comes the Jackets getting #1, his skill would be welcome. Hopefully he's as well rounded as that piece makes him out to be.

Before 2012 was the Yakupov Draft, it looked like the year of a lot of defensive prospects.

But the injuries are really taking a toll. Looking at the pre-season top 10 on TSN, two players already are out with torn ACLs. Ryan Murray has a high ankle sprain:

1. Nail Yakupov

2. Mathew Dumba - WHL - D

3. Filip Forsberg - SWE- Struggling in Allsvenksan (the 2nd tier Swedish league)

4. Ryan Murray - WHL - D - out with high ankle sprain

5. Alex Galchenyuk - OHL - (Yakupov's center) out with a torn ACL

6. Mikhail Grigorenko - QMJHL - C

7. Morgan Rielly - WHL - D - likely out for the season with a torn ACL

8. Nick Ebert - OHL - D - (plays for Bob Boughner in Windsor)

9. Derrick Pouliot - WHL (Portland) - D

10. Matia Marcantuoni - OHL - RW

10. Jacob Trouba - USNDP - D (committed to Michigan)

Honorable mentions:

Martin Frk - QJHML - RW - still out with a concussion. Would have been a linemate of Nathan MacKinnon

Griffin Reinhart - WHL - D - probably will move up with all the injuries.
