Shanahan explained that if someone else runs a goalie, that player will discuss the matter with him. If Shanahan “doesn’t buy” that person’s explanation, then a suspension will occur.
What a joke.

The only thing completely irresponsible is Shanahan's dispensation of justice.

Shanahan is a true piece of crap.

Impartial my ass, shanahan is a disgrace. And why does the NHL wonder they are the 6th or 7th most popular league , because they have bumbling idiots like Shanahan employed who was a joke during his playing days.

Well. Come on, Shanny. If you bought Lucic's shtick that he didn't see Miller until he couldn't make any sort of attempt to let up and watched him grin ear to ear on his way to the penalty box, all from a guy who already has a record, then you're not exactly setting a high standard.

Shrug.

so it will basically depend on how slick a tongue the perpetrator has, and how good they are at talking their way out of punishment??? Good stuff Shanny. GOOD STUFF.

It's not like they're asking a guy who didn't have his share of this sort of stuff in his career to handle the job. What smacks of irresponsible in all of this is Shanny's explaination and post-commentary comments.

It's the Sabres. I mean, aside from a little profanity and the occasional stern stare, what else are these guys capable of?

Dont use that brilliance to describe something as arguable as this. I was firmly in the suspend Lucic camp but his explanation makes a lot of sense and if he seemed sincere, thats a pretty reasonable stance to take.

That's some mighty fine objective discipline. What a crock.

The only thing irresponsible in this story is having a league with completely subjective enforcement of a seemingly arbitrary set of rules. Pick an objective set of criteria for discipline, apply them evenly to all players, and be consistent in your punishment. Why is that so much to ask for?

A ****ing conference call is now the line in the sand between dirty and clean? **** off Shanny.

Watch it, you don't want to be on the bad side of someone like Drew "push you once" Stafford!

Shanahan was and is wrong. It now is TRULY open season on NHL goaltenders.

How come Shanny didn't produce a little video showing why he wasn't suspending Lucic, same as the videos showing why other guys were suspended?

This bad decision should put every goalie on notice to protect himself by any means necessary if he feels his is about to get run. How about channeling Billy Smith and laying lumber on anyone who tries to take liberties?

Let punks like Lucic find out what the butt end of a goalie stick to the family jewels feels like. If their teammates aren't going to protect goalies, then goalies need to protect themselves.

I have always looked up the Shanny as a great player and a great ambassador of the game. This decision has brought my estimation of him down considerably.

I knew that taking this job would eventually tarnish his legacy. I just didn't think it would happen so soon.

Signed,

Henrik Lundqvist's Mother (joke)

I can't even believe that the league would allow Shanahan to give the "see whether I buy it" rationale to the public. That **** wouldn't fly in an intramural league. What a clown.

New owner, same BS treatment from the league. Not surprised.
