It's just funny that he finds it irresponsible.

If what Lucic did, coming from Lucic, can fly because he was convincing enough in a meeting rather than based solely on what happened on the ice, then for all intents and purposes it IS open season.

The most interesting thing for me here, though, is the change of direction:

Shanahan on the Boyes suspension from the preseason:
Quote:
Colborne’s head is the principle point of contact of Boyes’ hit. While the play develops quickly, Colborne makes no sudden movements just prior to, or simultaneous with, the hit; placing the onus on Boyes not to hit him in the head. While I believe Boyes’ assertion that he did not intentionally target the head, this is a reckless hit and is now illegal.
Shanahan on Lucic's lack of suspension:
Quote:
I had the hearing because I did make an initial assessment of the play as I do with all plays, but I did have some questions for Milan and I wanted to hear directly from him," Shanahan told NHL.com. "They were regarding his intent; at what point did he know there was going to be a collision; and whether or not he felt he had the time to avoid the collision. I was satisfied with his answers.
So... intent does or does not matter when dishing these out, Shanahan?

I still don't really care that Lucic wasn't suspended, but for him to come out and whine that Ruff said it how it is is a bit ridiculous, especially given the mixed standards he's already managed to exhibit only two months in.

No, but if you watch what happened it makes sense. Why would he purposely push the puck ahead? Why would he not just put his head down and barrel after the puck? I think it makes a ton of sense once you get inside his head.

Didnt see the game and didnt hear his comments besides his explanation. Maybe I'm way off, but it seems very reasonable to me given the info I have.

Maybe I'll start to take this approach at work....

"Oh you stole from me.... what was your thoughts on the situation? Could you avoid it"... "Oh you didn't mean to and had no choice.... OK we are done"

We'll see how long I'd keep my job if I do.... hopefully Shanahan will shape up in this regard or ship out... but doubtful.

Fresh coat of paint on the same crappy wall. Meh I'm not impressed at all.

Who is the human big toe on Versus? The guy doesn't understand the rules.
Edit -- toe in question was MacLean. Amazing that a former NHL head coach doesn't understand the rules on goaltender contact. Then again, he is a "former" NHL coach who wasn't bright enough to not alienate his star player right from the get-go...

Apparently Shanny believed Lucic's latest version of the incident because his comments right after the game sure were different than his explanation today.

As someone pointed out with the explanation of the Boyes suspension, the only thing consistant with NHL discipline is inconsistancy.

Good find. Someone should present this to Shanahan, and ask him to elaborate. At the very least, what Lucic did was very reckless. So why isn't this a suspension? Lucic has more of a record than Boyes did. What a sad, pathetic league.

I suspect Shanahan would talk about the head being the principle point of contact in the Boyes hit, but not the Lucic hit. And that when that is the case (the former), intent doesn't matter.

"So does retaliation prove, to a certain degree, intent? Of course it does." - Shanny

This is bad news. It means if we do anything but gently move our heads back and forth at the Bruins' hip level when they come here, Shanny's going to read OUR intent into it.

This is so ****ing bogus its unreal. He goes to great lengths to find Lucic didn't have intent for the worst looking hit of the season, and then goes on to say that WE will be the ones under the microscope from now on.

I want to cut his ginger balls off, what a tyrant.

This is straight up amateur hour, hard to take the league seriously when they hire these brain dead clowns with obvious bias to run the dog and pony show.

Honestly Shanahan lost all respect with me when he suspended MacArthur for that supposed headshot on Abdelkader. What a joke that was too.

Great, so the proof is in the pudding, always be first if you're gonna break the rules. Now the Sabres can't take an opportunistic last line change at home on the 23rd when Seguin and other squishy players are out there to put out heavies and pummel the hell out of them or Shanahan will suspend half the team for "retaliating." Typical.

Nothing will change until there is a Pacioretty equivalent incident to a goaltender.

Several threads close to the same subject, I repeat because I want to be heard:

I supported Shanahan until the Miller hit, had Miller been a CFL or NFL quarterback would they allow a hit as that? Let’s face it, there are 30-50 goaltenders in the world that can play at the starting NHL level, do we want to win games by hurting all of them so they can't play anymore?

Do we want all of the starting NHL goalies knocked out of game by Neanderthal and low-skilled players hitting them?

Shanahan is on the clock for letting Milan Lucic off the hook; next game Lucic gets a pay-back.... period.

Better yet, run Tim Thomas!
