Casey Wellman

It appears Wellman has gotten the call today. I wonder who comes out for him? Peters possibly or maybe Staubitz?

SWEET!

Wellman to the top six, Clutter back on the third line, sit Staubitz down. That will save us at least two PK's per game.

I've been waiting for this. He has been lighting it up so far this year in Houston. Hopefully his has figured out that his role is a scorer. I hope he can make the most of this call up. We have been pretty lucky with the play of our young defenseman so far this year, hopefully this can be a step in the right direction for our offense of the future.

Some say he is already on his way out with the Wild, with bad first impressions and having a pretty one dimensional game. But I see this as a great chance for him to prove what he can be worth to the Wild now and into the future. It looks like this summer he got a kick to the butt seeing all the young offensive weapons the Wild has coming in the next few years and knowing he better step up his game if he wants to continue with this organization.

To quote an ancient greek hero Achilles

He has his chance now with Lats out. He better show up or shut up

I didn't realize that he had 10 goals in 15 games so far, I also looked up his SOG totals and they are 48. I think the next closest is 37 (I know it's not the greatest stat, but it gives us a little look at how he's playing). I hope he can play well. I think we'll probably see him with Cullen and Butch.

He should get some top-6 time. Don't know what the lines are going to be, but I would try a couple out to see what works.

He seems to be playing much better down in Houston this year. Hopefully he can come up and pot a few

Fine, I'll do it for both of us.

On one hand, this is great news! He'll get top 6 time, pushing Clutter back to the third line and probably knocking Staubitz out of the lineup (with Stoner providing toughness) or Peters back into the press box.

On the other hand, if they're making a call up, that probably means Lats is expected to be out for a while. They didn't call Wellman up for the Cali part of the road trip, so that seems to me that something must have changed for them to bring him up.

What I hope for the lines to be:

Heatley-Cullen-Setoguchi
Wellman-Koivu-Bouchard
Johnson-Brodziak-Clutterbuck
Gillies-Powe-Peters/Staubitz

What I expect the lines to be:

Heatley-Koivu-Setoguchi
Wellman-Cullen-Bouchard
Johnson-Brodziak-Clutterbuck
Gillies-Powe-Staubitz

Wellman - Cullen - Setoguchi/PMB line would be crazy fast.

Can't wait to see Wellman get another shot, I'd like to see him succeed in the NHL.

I still say let Koivu play with Heatley some more. This call-up probably means that Latendresse will be out for a while, but we kind of knew that. It's just a shame all of the guys are getting hit with concussions all at once between Scandella and Latendresse. It's not going to be easy to replace those guys.

I love those lines Squidz. And I fully expect Wellman to not get an honest chance and for the inexplicable Koivu-Heatley love fest to continue.

Glad to see he got the call...let's see if his game has improved...if so, this could definitely help the top 6. He should be better than Cal or Johnson there.

The wild pre game says wellman plays on the 4th line if he gets in the lineup.

It also says that he's going to play center and that Scandella is out with a "head" (Lats is listed as concussion).

I wouldn't take anything that pre-game says too seriously.

Makes sense. We need Warren Peters to get those valuable minutes.

I'm probably on crack, but... I said this to Felix over the weekend.

I wouldn't put Wellman in place of Lats at all. I'd move Cullen up there instead. In fact, I probably wouldn't even use Wellman, but the Aeros have a schedule gap, so why not...

Cullen - Koivu - Heatley
Seto - Brodziak - Bouchard
Johnson - Peters - Clutterbuck
Gillies - Powe - Staubitz

It probably isn't entirely a conventional wisdom move, but in my opinion, Cullen would compliment Koivu and Heatley a great deal...

Edit: This is my thinking for a *road* game. For the home games... Last change?

Heatley - Koivu - Bouchard
Wellman - Cullen - Seto
Johnson - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Gillies - Powe - Staubitz

Having Last Change means a lot, in my brain.

Those second and third lines just made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

If you absolutely have to move Cullen to wing, don't screw up the third line by moving Brodziak off, and really really don't screw it up by putting Peters in there. While Peters has looked decent so far, that's because he's on the fourth line getting fourth line minutes. If you have no choice but to move Cullen to wing, either have Wellman center the second line, or promote Powe.

To me, Powe has looked way better as a center than he has on the wing. I don't know how Peters responds in that regard though.

I guess I'll have to change my avatar too since Big Bear will be in hibernation for a while.

I'd like to see Wellman get top 6 minutes too but in his first game this season it probably doesn't make a ton of sense to just throw him in there right off the bat.

Making GDT is tough, it took me like 10 minutes to do the GDT vs. Flamey!
Hard copy-paste work!

At the same time, I don't see Yeo breaking up the third line, and I also don't see Clutterbuck going to the fourth line.
